How you'll make a difference

You will provide a specialist, professional support service covering all areas of financial management to enable schools to fulfil their statutory obligations and strategic functions. This is for a limited term contract until 1 Jan . This post is restricted to permanent and temporary employees of South Gloucestershire Council only. What will you be doing? You will be taking responsibility for the management of the Schools Finance team including allocation of work, monitoring of workloads and performance management to ensure effective and efficient delivery of financial management and support to schools and other customers.
In the role you will be overseeing the development of the Schools Finance function as a provider of business and commercial advice to Schools and other customers. You will also support the Finance Officers to make the most efficient use of resources, to make effective decisions and support them in achieving continuous service improvement and maximise opportunities for income generation.
On a daily basis you will ensure compliance is met with the Scheme for Financing of Schools, that the Schools budget is prepared, the accounts are closed, all relevant returns and grant claims are completed in accordance with the relevant procedures and respective timescales.
A key part of your role will be the responsibility for the delivery of departmental service level agreements with the local authority or wider, maintaining and developing effective close liaison between the Schools Finance team and commissioners.

What we need from you

It is essential that you have a recognised CCAB qualification or Association of Accounting Technician qualified or will have equivalent relevant professional experience and evidence of continuing professional development.
You will have advanced Excel skills and experience of using computerised databases and monitoring systems, for example CIVICA/HCSS.
We require to you have substantial experience in Schools Finance including School Funding formula, Scheme for Financing of Schools together with considerable experience covering schools’ key financial processes of financial planning, budget preparation, budget monitoring and preparing final accounts.
