Job summary

The post holder will be expected to provide detailed specialist knowledge and care to the patient and their carers. They will act as a source of specialist advice in the nursing management of patients in their specialist area who require a high level of judgement, discretion and decision making whilst as an in-patient/outpatient or in a setting external to theTrust. The post-holder will provide education and training to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.

You will also be working with the Macmillan organisation. You will besupported by an expert team in an environment where training and developing opportunities are actively encouraged in order to meet the clinical needs of the role/patient cohort and the Trust's philosophies. The team operate a seven day service across the acute setting.

We offer a comprehensive induction programme and you will have appraisals on a regular basis with a view to developing knowledge and the development of your clinical leadership skills, you will need to demonstrable the ability to influence the practice of others throughteaching and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

Create an environment in which individuals take ownership for their professional development.

Establish & maintain a learning environment within the service of responsibility.

Provide & develop specialist teaching which will include practical & theoretical sessions to nursing, medical staff, other health care professionals & primary care in their own specialty & in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Participate & undertake research & audit to enhance & demonstrate evidence based practice.

Provide specialist care, knowledge & expertise, whilst being continually aware of the importance of empowering colleagues to ensure dissemination of knowledge & best practice.

Advise & support patients to manage their symptoms, giving highly specialist advice as appropriate.

Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in their specialty.

Assess, plan, prioritise, implement & evaluate nursing interventions to meet patient's needs.

Undertake comprehensive health care needs of patients, changing treatment plan as necessary.

Promote effective leadership at all times.

Manage effective multidisciplinary teamwork.

Deal personally with patients, relatives or visitors who make a compliant in line with Trust policy.
