About the role

You will be working on Climate Week NYC, the biggest annual climate event of its kind. It connects leaders from the world of business, tech, politics, academia, and civil society. It joins the forces of inspiring front runners that have the means, the scale and the power to drive the transition forward and ​to bring-on others who are not yet going fast but have the greatest potential to take action and drive down emissions.

You will work with the Exec Director of International Comms and the wider Climate Week NYC team to confirm and action our priorities for proactive stakeholder targeting and reach-out in regard to the event. You will support the stakeholder activity around our key initiatives during the week. You’ll utilise your experience in stakeholder engagement to identify and assess stakeholders' expectations and interests in the event and Climate Group’s work. You will also handle senior stakeholder inquiries and requests around Climate Week NYC. You will forge opportunities and leverage these opportunities beyond Climate Week NYC to build long term progress and relationships for Climate Group.

The role of Senior Stakeholder Manager, Climate Week NYC sits within the Communications team, and reports to the Executive Director of International Communications.

Key responsibilities will include:

Establishing and fostering relationships with critical external stakeholders around Climate Week NYC and its relation to our wider work. Being ready to represent Climate Group having quickly understood our programmes and mission. Taking an entrepreneurial approach to opening doors and contacts with key stakeholders, leveraging existing relationships and common connections. Leveraging opportunities from Climate Week NYC to build positive, long-term relationships with key stakeholders. Being a positive ambassador for the organisation and in turn establish new stakeholder relations. Being able to be the first point of contact for stakeholders where required; triaging requests and ensuring relevant teams advise on their handling, whilst ensuring timely and professional responses are provided. Navigating challenging stakeholder conversations. Completing rapid research on new key stakeholders, supporting teams in their proactive seeking out of new opportunities. Facilitating discussions for senior Climate Group executives with external stakeholders, providing briefings to drive toward Climate Group’s mission. Monitoring and evaluating stakeholder engagement efforts, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

About you

You will have ample senior experience in stakeholder relationship management, including with governments and businesses. For example, you may have a background in corporate public affairs or having undertaken this role in government.

You are creative and determined, and rapidly able to build your confidence in representing Climate Group and building relationships. You’ll be an acknowledged and trusted leader and expert in best practice and stakeholder engagement techniques.

You’ll help to drive fast-paced action, work to tight and changing deadlines and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build our profile.

Essential

Experience in handling senior stakeholders, from a government and business perspective. Very good understanding of climate issues and the relevant sectors of government and business who are our target audiences. A track record of working across a range of programmes/initiatives, in either the corporate, government or non-profit space. Experience and depth in a related communications discipline, e.g. corporate communications, public affairs or even a business development role in an NGO. Ability to handle potentially challenging conversations and find solutions to suit. Proactive, innovative, creative and solutions-focused. Proven experience in managing teams and delegating work. Proven ability to build and strengthen external contacts that are critical to achieving your goals. Proven success in developing successful stakeholder relationships. A dynamic, flexible and diplomatic professional with the ability to drive through ideas in complex networks.

Desirable

Experience in working on major stakeholder relations programmes. Experience in the climate field. Experience working in a matrixed organisation. Experience in managing event relationships.

This is a 4-month fixed-term contract.  The role is part-time, ideally 3 days per week, but 4 days per week is also possible. Salary and holiday, as well as days in the office per week, will be pro-rated accordingly.
