Job summary

This post is a fixed term contract based the department of Diabetes and Endocrinology supporting the work of the Directorate in delivering inpatient services and participating in speciality outpatient clinics in Diabetes and Endocrinology. The post provides training and experience in specialty diabetes clinics such as antenatal diabetes care, insulin pumps (CSII), community diabetes care, diabetic foot care, paediatric to adult diabetes transition clinics etc. Access to general adult endocrinology services, including access to specialist endocrinology via pituitary MDT at Salford Royal Hospital and opportunities to sit in on paediatric diabetes clinics.

The applicant should have suitable experience in General Medicine including subspeciality experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology and fulfil the requirements of the enclosed person specification.

The applicant will also be part of the on call rota which will give excellent experience in dealing with acute medical admissions. This post has regular on call commitments.

Main duties of the job

To work flexibly in undertaking their duties. This may require working during the evenings and weekends to ensure effective delivery of service and its sustainability. The need for any alterations will be highlighted by the Clinical Director and discussed with all relevant Consultants.

To support on call cover for acute medical admissions as part of the on call rota which includes diagnosis and treatment; under consultant supervision, of emergency and non-emergency patients admitted to the acute medical unit (AMU).

To contribute toa multidisciplinary team in hospital and in the community

To managea wide variety of common endocrine disorders in conjunction with tertiary centres where appropriate, with opportunities to attend MDT and other meetings in the tertiary centres and on site.

To offer teaching to junior doctors, medical students and other health professionals within the Trust.

Training at junior level including relevant experience and enthusiasm towards General Medicine, specifically Diabetes and Endocrinology Broad clinical skills in the comprehensive management of all patients. Skills in common procedures equivalent to ALS training Experience in and commitment to post graduate and undergraduate education.

Desirable

Previous middle grade level experience.
