Role Summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Physician Associate to join the Oncology team. They will be supporting the Acute Oncology team, based on Cherrybrook our chemotherapy day case unit, assessing Acute Oncology referrals alongside the doctors and Advanced Clinical Practitioners who work on the unit and in the wider team. In addition, you will be supporting the inpatient Oncology ward doctors in Yeo ward.

Within the department, we also host Physician Associate students and qualified Physician Associates on rotation through the hospital who also work alongside our junior doctor team giving the successful individual the opportunity to be involved in the mentoring and support of others.

As a Physician Associate, you will work as part of the Team using the wide range of skills you have to support the Cherrybrook clinical team with Acute Oncology admissions and the Yeo ward team with inpatient admissions to the department.

The Post Holder’s key responsibilities include providing the first point of contact care for patients presenting to Acute Oncology on Cherrybrook utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient (and their carers where applicable).

As the Physician Associate you will act within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a doctor. You will show safe clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within oncology, in consultation with the doctor. You will work with the multi-disciplinary acute oncology team to support the delivery of policy and procedures and meet the needs of patients.

Supervision and mentoring will be provided by the appropriate senior medical staff - the type of support will depend on the post holder’s skills and knowledge and determined by our clinical governance arrangements.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 4-5 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from October 4. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 4 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 3-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 3/ | NHS Employers).
