Job summary

Each of the 4 Consultant General Anaesthetic posts have varied sub-speciality interests such as Vascular, Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Upper GI, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Consultant Anaesthetist will provide Anaesthetic services at both Trust sites, Hull Royal Infirmaryand Castle Hill Consultant Anaesthetist will also provide on call cover for CEPOD Theatres in Hull Royal Infirmary at 1 in 20 with prospective cover.

Main duties of the job

A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities. Any extra programmed activities will be agreed at the job planning process with the Clinical Manager. Any such agreement will be made in writing and the additional programmed activities will be incorporatedinto the Job Plan schedule.

FRCA (or equivalent)

MD, PhD, Post graduate qualification in Education/Management

Eligibility

Either on the specialist register CCT/CESR or if currently in a specialist registrar post, he/she is eligible to be registered within 6 months

Fitness To Practise

In good standing with the General Medical Council

Language Skills

Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Clinical skills

Essential

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of training and clinical experience and competence in all anaesthetic techniques relevant to the post ost Must have worked in the UK for at least 12 months as an anaesthetist ALS, ATLS and APLS Provider

Desirable

SIA ( Special Interest in Anaesthesia) in subspecialities such as Neuro Anaesthesia, vascular anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, Major GI surgery, Airway and Head and Neck Anaesthesia.

Knowledge/ Understanding

Essential

Understanding of current issues in the NHS, and of the responsibilities of a NHS consultant.

Desirable

Attendance at recognised management courses

Commitment to clinical governance / improving quality of patient care

Essential

Evidence of completed Audit. Quality improvement projects, research

Desirable

A commitment to continuing AUDIT, QiP and research. Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
