The Hollies is a specialistassessment and treatment ward for people with learning disabilities and difficulties with their mental health.

We are looking to recruit someone who enjoys working in a dynamic, and at times, challenging environment. You must be able to work flexibly, creatively, and efficiently within the MDT and have excellent communication skills, supporting and motivating people with learning disabilities to engage in meaningful activity on the ward . This will be dependent on the changing needs of the patient group, and informed by close team working, handover meetings, and MDT meeting etc.

You will be committed to working with the people who use our inpatient Mental Health Services and be enthusiastic about joining our skilled and supportive multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The post holder will work intensively with people admitted to the ward and will be expected to develop and deliver both group and individual sessions which support recovery and promote well-being, under the guidance of a qualified member of staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as part of the multidisciplinary team but will be supernumerary to the nursing team on each shift in order to protect group and individual patient activity. You will plan and co-ordinate the ward activity programme, co-facilitating groups with nursing staff, healthcare assistants, and the Occupational Therapy team.

To provide and co-ordinate meaningful group and activity sessions for the patients. To develop activities with individuals and support people to use and access these. To offer group-based sessions on ward. These may have a variety of focuses, including reminiscence, social inclusion, communication, leisure, and recovery. To work alongside the nursing team As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Activity Co-ordinator will provide support and practical assistance to older people in order for them to regain confidence in their skills and abilities to enable a successful re-integration into the community Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

Good level of secondary education to GCSE level Level of educational attainment to NVQ 3 / AS Level or equivalent Understanding of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) or whole life plan

Desirable

Related Health or Social Care qualification Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of recovery worker role

Experience

Essential

Experience of being in a supportive and enabling role Experience of working in a team or a group environment

Desirable

Experience of working in the public sector Experience of working across different organisational boundaries Experience of training, teaching, coaching/mentoring others

Skills & Abilities

Essential

Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Able to relate to a wide range of people Professional in appearance and behaviour Ability to maintain a healthy home/work life balance Ability to manage stress and to plan and prioritise workload

Desirable

Computer literate in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express etc Presentation skills
