The Role

We are looking to recruit a Senior Charge Nurse, to join our Day Surgery, Endoscopy, Decontamination Unit at University Hospital Wishaw.

The Senior Charge Nurse/Senior Operating Department Practitioner role is to provide support for the Senior Nurse/ Practitioner and to work together on the programme of improvement in Perioperative Services, in NHS Lanarkshire.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with relevant proven management experience.

This role will include providing support and leadership of the teams working in Endoscopy, Day Surgery Unit and the Endoscopy Decontamination Unit.

This role also supports the site management team in the overall management and efficiency of both scheduled & unscheduled pre and post op care for the patients of NHS Lanarkshire.

The Senior Charge Nurse/ Senior Operating Department Practitioner must have a well proven record of managing groups of staff within the Perioperative environment. The post holder will assist with the daily operational scheduling and utilization of staffing and resources across the units they manage. Daily management of conflicting priorities while maintaining a patient centered outcome. Promote a culture of fiscal awareness to ensure optimal use of resources. Perform a leadership role in supporting staff and patients as individuals, and ensure positive and respectful behaviours are displayed within the departments. Post holder acts as a link between all areas of perioperative services. Form a safety culture within the Unit, that works in collaboration with the other two perioperative departments to promote best practice.  Ensure operational direction and strategy set by the Organisation and Chief Nurse for Perioperative Services are supported and actioned.

What we'll need you to bring

Registered Nurse with valid UK NMC Registration Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently. Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality. Advanced Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality. Evidence of application of advanced practice skills in speciality and applying clinical judgement. Evidence of further developed knowledge and experience in management and/or leadership.  Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate and influence others and work using own initiative Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills and effective time management skills Working knowledge of basic information technology
