Maidstone, United Kingdom South East Water Full time
Job information

Do you want to kick-start a career and obtain a highly respected qualification?

Do you thrive in challenging environments? Are you a real team-player? Then this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for…

We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for.

You’ll join our team of Electrical Technicians, who see to it that our water pumping stations, reservoirs and production sites are kept well maintained and performing at their best. As an apprentice, you’ll gain all of the technical skills and core knowledge required to maintain and fix the electrical plant and equipment that keeps the water running for our customers.

As an apprentice, you won’t need any previous experience. What’s most important, is that you can work well with others, enjoy solving problems, and want to produce work that meets the highest quality standards.

We’ll provide all of the training, coaching and mentoring you need throughout this nationally recognised apprenticeship programme. You’ll engage in 4 days of practical learning and 1 day each week studying to achieve a technical qualification. This structured apprenticeship lasts between 36-48 months where you’ll be working towards securing a permanent position with South East Water.

Once you’re a fully qualified Electrical Technician, you’ll work your way up our career progression scheme which means you could be earning £35,316 and upwards per annum.

You can rest assured that no two days are ever the same here. You’ll learn how to maintain and install a range of electrical plant, water treatment equipment, pumps and motors. This means you’ll be eager to learn and curious about engineering processes and principles.

Ideally, you’ll be based in Kent or close to the county boarder to cover locations throughout our Kent and East Sussex network. We’ll provide a company vehicle to help with travel; you’ll just need to have a clean driver’s licence. You’ll work 37 hours per week between the hours of 7.30am to 15.30 Monday to Friday.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to build a lasting career within the water industry.

What do you get from working at South East Water?

You’ll grow a career with a meaningful purpose. Be you, belong and be valued.

Come to work to be safe, valued, and trusted. We’ll encourage you to create and pursue new opportunities for personal growth. A place to be the real you, build deeper connections and enjoy a sense of belonging. Be invested in helping us to create a sustainable water supply for now, and in the future.

What will you be delivering?

In Year 1: you’ll spend 4 days per week completing practical skills within a practical workshop and 1 day a week studying the technical certificate. From Year 2 onwards: you will move to completing learning on the job with 1 day a week continuing to study the technical certificate. You’ll continue learning until you're ready for the end point assessment in Year 4.

What do you bring to the role?

You’ll have 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including mathematics, English and science, or equivalent and/or relevant experience You’ll be physically fit for working in confined spaces You have a clean driver’s licence You’ll follow health and safety policies to ensure the protection of people and property You’re someone who can work well with people from different backgrounds to achieve the best results. You have great interpersonal skills and can take the need and concerns of others into accounts. You enjoy gathering facts, solving problems and developing solutions. You have high levels of concentration that will help you to keep risks to a minimum.

What you can expect from us

Excellent Stakeholder pension scheme, up to 10% employer contribution 25 days holiday entitlement, increasing to 30 days with length of service Cycle to work scheme Health cash plan Life assurance Wellbeing related benefits
