Band 8a Eating Disorder Lead and Family Therapist

Bristol, United Kingdom Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Job summary

We are looking for an established Family Therapist to lead our Eating Disorder treatment pathway, and support the wider provision of Family Therapy within the South Bristol CAMHS team.

As our lead for Eating Disorder treatment, you would also be working closely with the wider AWP CAMHS Community Eating Disorder Service, which has undergone outstanding transformation over the last two years. The pathway now includes an Eating Disorder Home Treatment team and community NG feeding, which is in the second year of a pilot. We also benefit from an eating disorder 'Hub', which is a small team of dedicated ED clinicians who work alongside locality CAMHS and provide additional interventions to support young people to remain at home as far as is practically possible. We aim to reduce rates of admission and length of stay to acute hospitals, and reduce the need for admissions to CAMHS General Adolescent Units (GAUs) and Specialist Eating Disorder Units (SEDUs).

The post holder will be a senior member of the team offering consultation and clinical supervision to other team members. They will also be part of the Team Leadership Group, and therefore have an active role in developing the service to become more effective and inclusive.

South Bristol is an area of significant disparities in health, wealth and access. We are committed to working in a manner which is inclusive and anti-oppressive, and invite applications from staff who share these values.

Main duties of the job

As our Eating Disorder Lead, you would be leading on the provision of assessment and treatment for young people presenting with an Eating Disorder.

This would therefore involve:

Reviewing referrals from external agencies/professionals; Providing consultation to CAMHS team members outside of the Eating Disorder pathway who are working with young people presenting with disordered eating; Holding oversight of triages and assessments; Ensuring that young people receive an evidence-based intervention for the treatment of their Eating Disorder, both through your own direct clinical work and through the supervision you provide for other clinical staff. Managing case loads for those working in the ED team

You would also play an active role in delivering Family Therapy to young people working with South Bristol CAMHS who do not have an Eating Disorder, alongside the other Family Therapists in the team. The split of your job plan in and out of the Eating Disorder pathway would be negotiated based on your working hours in the team and your personal preferences.

A more exhaustive list of duties is provided in the enclosed Job Description/Person Specification document.
