Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 Community Nursery Nurse to join the Brent Health Visiting Team. We are searching for community nursery nurses who have experience of working within early years settings or the health service and are skilled in communicating with professionals and clients from a wide variety of backgrounds.

As a community Nursery Nurse our skill mix teams work passionately to deliver our progressive service and continue to seek and develop innovative ways of working with Brent families to enable children to have their best start in will be of support for members of the team and deliver services in line with the Healthy Child programme under the supervision of the Health Visitor.

The team are seeking dynamic individuals with a strong public health focus who are fully committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our diverse population. You will be a highly motivated individual who has good communication skills with an interest in proactively managing health promotion initiatives.

The successful candidate will be trained in delivering the Infant to school programme us base on the MESCH way of working for children 2months and 1 year prior to start school.

Main duties of the job

Support the work of the 0-19 Public Health Team with planned programmes of public health care and health promotion in accordance with The Healthy Child Programme (DH 2009). Undertake activities as delegated by the Health Visitor, in support of the delivery of the 0-19 service. Support the delivery of a 'child focused service' which promotes good partnership working with parents, nurseries, children's centres and other agencies. To participate in service development and health improvement activities. To advise parents/carers on positive parenting skills including understanding and managing child behaviour, introduction to solids and nutrition, play and stimulation, speech and language development, sleep management and toilet training, ensuring that advice is evidence based to facilitate school readiness. To act as the link 0-19 professional for identified PVIs in line with local service specification . Work in a collaborative manner with Children's Centres, nurseries, parents, members of the Primary Health Care Team and other agencies. Identifying where there is a cause for concern and taking appropriate action in accordance with safeguarding guidelines, including informing a senior member of staff of any concerns.

Education/Qualification

Essential

BTEC Diploma in Child Care or NVQ in Child Care level 3 or equivalent

Desirable

Educated to Diploma level in a health-related subject.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with children and families in a formal health, educational or social care setting Evidence of ongoing training in Early Years Experience of working as a team member and on own

Desirable

Experience of leading group work Experience of working in the NHS

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

Basic skills in numeracy and literacy IT skills including Word, Excel Ability to assess a situation, identifying any risk or potential problem and act appropriately. Knowledge of safeguarding children Knowledge of normal child development, parenting skills and the importance of play. Able to work under pressure and to deadlines Able to make and record observations of children's behaviour and development Ability to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills Willingness to learn new skills and put them into practice Enthusiastic proactive and motivated, uses own initiative Maintains high level of confidentiality
