Job summary

The East of England Regional Maternity Team are recruiting a Regional Obstetric Lead, to support maternity services across the East of England. The post holder will work 2 days a week (4 PA's, flexible) as part of a dynamic & ambitious Regional Maternity Team to support the strategic and operational development and delivery of a coherent and effective maternity service approach across the East of England.

You will ensure activities are aligned to and support delivery of the Three year Delivery Plan; Regional clinical priorities; and the wider Local Maternity & Neonatal System plans in achieving safer and quality outcomes for women, birthing people, their babies and families. You will form strong professional relationships with the other regional obstetric leads and national specialty advisors as well as the National Clinical Director.

Main duties of the job

The portfolio of responsibility includes supporting the implementation of the maternity and neonatal programme on a regional level, quality improvement programmes, and safety champion. You will provide subject matter expertise for all aspects of obstetric clinical, governance, and workforce matters. You will provide obstetric leadership and have an opportunity to develop key working relationships and meetings. You will have the opportunity to influence national policy as well as provide national colleagues with your "on the ground" insight into the operational issues affecting maternity units within your region. You will support those units on the MSSP and work with the Maternity Improvement advisors for NHSE

Job responsibilities

As a Regional Obstetric Lead, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic & ambitious Regional Maternity Team to support maternity services across the East of England. The post-holder will support the strategic and operational development and delivery of a coherent and effective service approach across the East of England ensuring activities are aligned to and support delivery of the Three year Delivery Plan; Regional clinical priorities; and the wider Local Maternity & Neonatal System plans in achieving safer and quality outcomes for women, birthing people, their babies and families

The post-holder will have responsibility for clinical leadership, advice and engagement.

Key aspects of this role will be to:-

To provide professional clinical leadership and advice to the Regional Maternity Team; Local Maternity & Neonatal Systems; Providers; and partner organisations

To lead by example in building strong collaborative relationships at Provider, System, Regional and National level, with particular focus in supporting and developing the obstetric workforce

To develop a strong and robust clinical engagement strategy that is inclusive, empowering and reflects the integral contribution and involvement of obstetricians, obstetric physicians and the broader medical workforce in leading on and supporting the work of the Regional Maternity Team

To provide clinical leadership in the ongoing development of Maternal Medicine Networking; & Quality Improvement initiatives such as Sixty Supportive Steps to Safety

To communicate the Regional Maternity Teams focus on quality and outcomes from national through to local level, allowing the local networks to feed ideas and input back to NHS England / Improvement (as appropriate).

To provide obstetric and clinical leadership for improving and safeguarding quality and the development of an effective integrated multidisciplinary service for maternity care in East of England, by engaging and collaborating with Trust, ICB and Regional medical and obstetric leaders.

Educated to Masters level in a clinical or scientific discipline or equivalent level of experience Post Graduate management qualification or equivalent level of experience Registered medical practitioner with current GMC registration Significant experience at senior level in the NHS or other public healthcare related industry Knowledge and experience of working in formal clinical networks within the NHS
