An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Junior Sister or Charge Nurse to join the team on Eleanor Frailty unit . You would be someone who wants to improve quality and provide outstanding patient care and to ensure that our patient experience is one of the best.

Eleanor Frailty unit is a 12 bedded . We are committed to developing a culture in line with our values that improves quality and enhances the patients experience and you will play a vital part in developing new ways of working to achieve this goal.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to be part of an dynamic team in delivering excellent care and standards to our patients, and part of a team that is driven in supporting its nursing and multidisciplinary teams.

This is a 12 month seconded post covering maternity leave, which is a strong opportunity to enhance skills and experience within the band 6 role.

Main duties of the job

You will help to manage the day to day running of this Eleanor Frailty Unit for our inpatients and act as a resource for patients, relatives and staff. You will work within the Multidisciplinary Team to produce an efficient and safe, and well led area for patients to receive high quality care. We are looking for a driven individual whom has a proven track record of being dynamic, innovative and constantly striving to improve their service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder supports the Ward Manager in the general management of the clinical environment, ensuring that a quality service is provided.

They will be responsible for ensuring that staff within the team are supported and developed within their role.

They will oversee a team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, monitoring their professional development through carrying out KSF IPRs.

The post holder will support the flow of patients through the department, identifying and working towards set criteria for discharge.

The post holder will be a role model both clinically and professionally.

Provide effective input into the work of the Trust, to support the achievement of our vision and values.

Corporate Responsibilities

Meet clinical objectives as agreed separately with the Ward Manager/Directorate Head Nurse.

Will participate in regular staff and directorate meetings.

Assist the Ward Manager to create and maintain positive working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team.

Act as an effective role model and resource/advisor to colleagues, in the delivery of nursing care.

Supporting Patient Excellence

Provide clinical nursing expertise and supervision of all grades of staff within the ward, to ensure a high standard of care.

Supervise the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, thus providing high standards of patient care at all times.

Ensure that the care given reflects the hospital and departmental philosophies, standards and protocols.

Promote a healthy, positive and safe environment for patients and staff.

Advise patients, relatives and friends as appropriate on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.

People/Management Excellence

Assist the Ward Manager in monitoring and appraising the performance of staff within their sphere of responsibility.

Supporting Financial Excellence

Be aware of the budgetary requirements within their clinical areas of nursing.

Professional Responsibilities

Be responsible for their own development, maintaining a professional portfolio and keeping themselves updated on current nursing issues.

Will be responsible for their own actions and be bound by the NMCs Code of Professional conduct and all approved Trust policies.

Will maintain own skills and knowledge and demonstrate clinical excellence and high standards of practice to other staff.

Quality Assurance and Monitoring

To undertake audits within the ward regarding all aspects of care (Saving lives, Safety thermometer etc)

Help to develop methods at ward level to monitor standards of care in liaison with the Ward Manager.

Policy and Service Development Responsibilities

Act as a change agent to promote innovation and high standard of practice.

General Responsibilities

Assist the Ward Manager in facilitating the teaching, mentoring and assessment of staff and other disciplines.

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential

Current Registered Nurse with the NMC Degree in nurse related speciality or working towards level 6 study Mentorship or teaching qualification - or working towards Able to evidence recent and continuing professional development relative to the department Experience within acute medicine

Desirable

MSc or working towards level 7 study Counselling or coaching skills/qualification Undertaken band 6 development programme
