As anAssociate Planner you will take a leadership role on planningapplications and projects and
coordinating and overseeingprojects. You will take a role in assisting the RegionalDirector
and Associate Directors in developing the teamscore competencies and continue to extend
your technicaland mentoringskills.


KeyRole Responsibilities

Werelooking for someone who:

  • Responsiblefor the daytoday management and wellbeing of team of resourceproject or activity within specifically identifiedresponsibilities
  • Has a range of management andleadership skills but may have had limited managementexperience
  • Maintains a commitment to CPD and isinvolved in the continuous improvement of the performance of othersthrough a variety of means includingmentoring
  • Performs a variety of complextechnical professional and commercialactivities.
  • Expanding networks and creatingrelationships with key stakeholders including localauthorities
  • Develops good client contractor andsupplier relationships as well as having internal network ofcolleagues who they collaborate effectively with to ensure the mostsuccessful outcome for theproject/client.
  • Demonstrates clear leadershipand technical capability with the ability to influence and persuadeothers at all levels.
  • Able to prepare andpresent clearly cogently and convincingly to a variety of audiencesusing a variety of different media.
  • Builds andconsolidates networks within the industry and across internalnetwork to enhance understanding & knowledge ofexpertise.
  • Is an ambassador and ensures a greatclient experience whether it is internal orexternal.
  • Able to generate a high proportion oftheir own workload through a good understanding of our market ourservices and has a high degree of input into preparation of projectproposals.
  • Develops and implements innovativeand creative methods to enhance our solution and overall projectoutcomes
  • Negotiation of the best terms for thebusiness including strong awareness and management of legal andcontractual aspects.
  • Responsible for daytodaymanagement of section or project budgets including WIP on projectswithin area of responsibility
  • Understands theimportance of financial success and takes responsibility to act inthe interest of achieving it.
  • Responsible forinterpreting organising researching analysing and executing a majorproject and / or medium scaleprojects.
  • Provides fee control technicaldirection and effectively manages senior clientliaison
  • Provides guidance on complex technicalissues to ensure projects are delivered within budget and ontime.
  • Manages medium projects or several smallones with complex features
  • Project managing amix of planning submissions andappeals
  • Technical planning work includingliaising with client preparing fee proposals policyresearch.
  • Preparing and submitting planningapplications
  • Preparing written local planrepresentations
  • Undertaking site inspectionsand assessing the merits of proposals
  • Givingguidance to engineers/architects on the production of drawings andsupplementary information in relation to planningsubmissions.
  • Submitting planning appeals andleading on written representations appeals and contributing toappeal hearings asrequired.

Qualifications& Experience

  • AnRTPI accredited degree or Masters in a relateddiscipline.
  • A chartered member of the RoyalTown Planning Institute
  • At least four yearspost qualification experience in a relevantrole
  • Will have spent a reasonable amount oftime working in the planning industry ideally including someexperience of working in the privatesector

  • Excellentcommunication skills including written andverbal.
  • Strong negotiationskills.
  • Excellent project management skillscoupled with timeliness andaccuracy.
  • Deputising or supporting with linemanagement responsibilities
  • Strong reportwriting skills and ability to review colleagues work providingconstructive feedback.
  • Strong commercialknowledge.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise ofplanning practice legislation across England andWales
  • Excellent report writing with a naturalability to explain and discuss planning issues for a variedaudience.
  • An awareness of local politics andthe interface between planning andpolitics
