Fellowship in Anaesthesia and Research August 2024

The post will be based within the Perioperative Medicine and Critical Care Group at South Tees Hospitals for a period of 12 months, commencing in August 2024 (or as soon after as feasible). A range of cutting-edge Quality Improvement and academic opportunities will be available to the successful applicant in addition to a 50% clinical commitment to the department. The post will provide out-of-programme experience, with applicants required to hold the first part of the FRCA qualification (or equivalent). Any applicant must have the full support from their school or deanery prior to application (as appropriate). The post is also suitable for post-CCT applicants. Main duties of the job

This post will provide an exciting opportunity to be involved in the departments nationally recognised research programme involving a range of opportunities in perioperative medicine. This will include the opportunity to achieve research certification through the NIHR's national Associate Principle Investigator (API) scheme. The research team comprises 3 full-time research nurses, administrative support staff and several research active Consultants. The team has an established national academic profile for the quality of their work, which includes; excellence in research delivery and publication, high levels of grant income, and supervision of academic trainees and higher degree students with excellent feedback.

The post will provide an exciting opportunity to be integrally involved in the departments nationally recognised prehabilitation before surgery programme: Waiting Well . The team has recently been shortlisted for the HSJ digital awards finals 2024 in recognition of their work in excellent work in creating innovative solutions to support patients preoperatively. The core team comprises 2 full-time project managers (physiotherapist and exercise scientist), an administrative facilitator, health trainers, supported by a cross-sector collaboration with Public Health and Industry partners.

Initial Assessment of Competence Must have evidence of adequate experience to fulfil service need. This includes completion of Royal College of Anaesthetist's "Initial Assessment of Competence" and "Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia". Applicant should be achieving satisfactory progression in their training programme Must have at least 18 months experience of working in anaesthetics and be able to work without direct supervision.
