Speech and Language Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Salary: £83 - £100 per day
Start Date: June 2024

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children? Do you have a strong desire to help students develop their communication skills? If so, GSL Education are seeking a highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join an exceptional Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire starting in June 2024.

Speech and Language Therapist requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Bachelor's degree in speech and language pathology, communication disorders, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children with speech and language difficulties (previous experience in an educational setting is highly desirable).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.

Speech and Language Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and interactive lessons.
  • To work with children and young adults on a 1:1 and small group basis to help overcome their barriers to learning.
  • Assisting the speech and language therapist in implementing individualized therapy plans.
  • Conducting one-on-one or small group sessions with students to practice speech and language skills.
  • Monitoring and documenting student progress and adjusting therapy techniques accordingly.
  • Collaborating with teachers and parents to develop strategies for incorporating speech and language goals into the classroom and home environments.
  • Supporting students during classroom activities, ensuring their participation and comprehension.
  • Providing a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable practicing and improving their communication skills..
