Job summary

Are you a dietitian with an interest in enteral nutrition and nutritional support? We have an exciting, opportunity for WTE band 6 Dietitian to enhance their skills and knowledge in neurosciences (neurology and neurosurgery) on a temporary basis for 9 months as a result of a maternity leave cover. The workload would include inpatients in this area alongside service development responsibilities and leadership of junior members of the team. As a service, we are committed to continuing professional development for all our staff through a range of opportunities that include recognised training courses, involvement in service development and audit. We have supported staff through a number of development opportunities including Masters, for example, Roosevelt Scholarships and HEEM Scholarship programme.

Main duties of the job

The role will support delivery of care to patients across the neurosciences pathway, which will include attending MDT meetings. The successful candidate will support complex nutritional interventions as well as nutrition support and enteral feeding. We actively encourage service improvement and audit and the successful candidate would have the opportunity to be involved in development work to improve nutritional care of our patients.

You'll need to have excellent communication and leadership skills, a flexible approach and the ability to manage your own time and workload and that of other members of staff within a supportive team. Experience and evidence of a varied clinical experience is desirable.

The Dietetic service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH.

We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists.

We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

You should have experience of working as a dietitian, have excellent communication skills, self-motivation, have a flexible approach and the ability to manage your own time and buys workload within a supportive team. Nutritional support skills are essential and additional training and support will be provided.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified Dietitian (4 year degree, post-graduate diploma or equivalent). HCPC registered Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

Relevant validated course. Member of BDA including specialist group.

Experience

Essential

Experience as a dietitian in nutritional support Able to apply additional depth of knowledge gained through experience to specialist area

Desirable

Experience of working in relevant specialist area/s.

Able to interpret complex information to make decisions

Communication

Essential

Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training. Able to work as an integral member of dietetic and multi-professional teams, building relationships with patients/carers, and other staff. Able to handle sensitive and confidential information and respond to people who are distressed or anxious. Able to overcome difficulties in communication, including language barriers, and adapt approach to varying situations.

Planning and organisation skills

Essential

Able to plan and organise own workload, including daily tasks and longer term strategic planning, despite interruptions and changing priorities. Able to plan and organise the work of allocated student dietitians.

Physical skills

Essential

Able to carry out anthropometric measurements accurately and use relevant equipment. Able to use a computer keyboard and relevant computer programmes.
