The Designated Safeguarding Lead will take lead strategic responsibility for safeguarding and child protection and behaviour support across Southlands School; Education and Care provision. Throughout this document will be referred to as DSL as a positive behaviour culture and approaches come under the safeguarding remit and are intrinsically linked. The Designated Safeguarding Lead will work with the Senior Leadership Team, as part of the Senior Management Team, to create and maintain and continue to develop a positive safeguarding culture. The role includes line management of the behaviour support and Safeguarding teams to ensure quality recording reporting and early identifications of patterns, trends and staff training needs. The role will involve guiding and delivering staff training. The Designated Support Lead will support child protection procedures by taking part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, and contribute to the assessment of children The Designated Support Lead will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters, carrying out audits of local (site level) and some regional (within Cambian SEN Division) systems to identify opportunities for learning and improving practice. This can include carrying out management investigations into relevant practice issues. The 2 Designated Lead will be confident in reporting to the Governance Board. The role requires liaison with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police. At all times demonstrating an understanding and recognition of the responsibilities outlined within KCSIE and Working Together to Safeguard Children. The Designated Safeguarding Lead will lead a team of Deputy Designated Safeguarding and Behaviour Support Leads in respect of their safeguarding responsibilities.
