The Village of Lincolnshire invites you to join its collaborative and dynamic team as its next Building Inspector in the Community & Economic Development Department (CED). Lincolnshire’s Building Inspector should be passionate about helping residents and businesses achieve their dreams while balancing professional codes and community standards. CED comprises a five-person team working across departments to promote a seamless permit and construction process. The Building Inspector plays a key role in researching and recommending the adoption of construction codes, permit requirements, and the structure of fees/fines. The Village has existing contractual agreements to assist in plan review and inspection operations. This position has the opportunity for promotion based on employee performance and certifications acquired. The Village will assume all expenses for testing and materials.
Key Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Assistant Village Manager/Community & Economic Development Director. Assists in overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Village’s building division including plan reviews, building permit processing, inspection services, as well as building and life safety code enforcement. Enforces building, zoning, property maintenance, and storm water codes. Serves as a single point of contact for construction project managers and “pivot point” to gain assistance and insight from other Village departments as needed. Performs a range of routine and complex inspections to ensure public safety before, during, and after construction activities. Responds to complaints and maintain detailed records of all work performed. Assists in the management of several professional service contracts for plan reviews and inspections structural engineering plan reviews; elevator inspections; and fire safety plan reviews and inspections. Continuously enhances skills amid changing building technology and ICC codes. Requires an associate degree (i.e., two years) or accredited trade school with coursework in architecture, code enforcement, and/or related fields. Demonstrates two to five years of progressively responsible experience in the enforcement of building regulations as a building inspector, plans examiner, or related experience in the construction trades is desirable. A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered. The following certifications must be acquired: Residential Building Inspector (first six months of employment) and Commercial Building Inspector (first 12 months of employment). The Village will assume all expenses for testing and materials. Maintains knowledge of approved construction methods, procedures, and materials. Possesses experience inspecting residential and commercial buildings and property maintenance codes (local, state, federal) that apply to new and existing structures. Experience/qualifications as a State of Illinois Licensed Plumber; Registered Architect; and/or Registered Electrician is desirable. Possesses a valid Class D driver’s license. Is adept at using the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Teams. Familiarity with the BS&A enterprise resource planning suite of applications is desired. The successful candidate must pass a background check, credit check, and drug screen.
