Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at an all through school located in North Bath. This school is designed to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The students face challenges in their emotional and social development, which can impact their ability to form and maintain healthy relationships and social skills.

SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs may appear as mood issues (like anxiety or depression), behavioural problems (such as defiance or aggression), self-harm, substance abuse, eating disorders, or unexplained physical symptoms. Some students may also have conditions like ADD, ADHD, attachment disorders, or generalized anxiety disorders.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs in both one-to-one and small group settings.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to help students develop appropriate social skills and emotional responses.
  • Establish trusting and supportive relationships with students to create a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Offer emotional support and mentoring to help students manage anxiety, stress, anger, or other emotional challenges.
  • Observe and record students' behaviour, academic progress, and emotional well-being, providing regular feedback to teachers and SEN coordinators.
  • Promote an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Participate in relevant training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance understanding and skills related to SEMH support

The successful educator will have:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of students with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when faced with challenges.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion and equality for all students, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds.
