We are looking for an experienced admin manager with an understanding and passion for dog welfare and commitment to excellent customer service to join our team as Assistant Manager Operations (Ops) at our Penrith Transfer Centre.
Working within the Management team, the Assistant Manager Operations (Ops) has primary responsibility for the driver team and driver logistics, kennel management, the supervision of kennel staff, and the welfare of dogs at the Centre and in transport.
As Assistant Manager Ops, you’ll:
- Plan the logistics of transfer routes and liaising with rehoming centres about incoming dogs.
- Manage transfer and kennel staff, scheduling their rotas and breaks and ensuring that they carry out their duties correctly and in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, and other Dogs Trust policies.
- Ensure and implement high standards of dog welfare throughout the kennels, being fully knowledgeable on all dogs housed at the centre, understanding their history, rehoming and welfare needs and current rehoming status.
About you:
The successful candidate will have significant supervisory experience, excellent knowledge of dog welfare requirements with the ability to identify deteriorating or poor welfare and find ways to rectify the concerns and ideally, experience of caring for animals in a rehoming environment. You'll have strong administrative, communication and customer care skills with a proven ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations, always working in the best interests of our dogs, customers and the organisation.
The role includes taking the lead in the assessment of dogs entering or potentially entering Dogs Trust care and providing training and professional guidance to all centre colleagues (staff & volunteers) in the implementation of enrichment and training programmes. This is a very practical, hands-on role, with extensive involvement and handling of dogs on a day-to-day basis. You'll also need to be fully conversant with the duties and responsibilities of the other members of the Management team in order to cover for them during periods of absence.

About the team:
Our Transfer Centre at Penrith supports the movement of up to 2,000 stray, abandoned, or unwanted dogs every year to the safety of our network of rehoming centres across the UK. Come rain or shine, our team are out in all weathers to make sure the dogs have the best possible life. The Transfer Centre at Penrith also serves as the base of our Cumbria Rehoming project and the team have rehomed over 500 dogs from foster homes in the past two years.
What else do I need to know?
A full, manual driving licence is also essential, as driving will be a part of the role. The opportunity for live-in accomodation may be available and will be discussed at interview stage. Working times are Monday to Sunday on a rota basis with occational overnight cover (subject to change and will be discussed during interview).
