SEN Teaching Assistant Required in Stockport

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Stockport. This is a full-time position starting ASAP, continuing until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of the role becoming permanent based on performance. The pay for this role ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs, helping to ensure they receive the necessary assistance to succeed both academically and socially. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Individual and Small Group Support: Providing tailored support to students with various SEN requirements, including those with learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, and emotional or behavioral challenges. This may involve one-on-one sessions or working with small groups to reinforce lesson content and develop key skills.

  • Classroom Assistance: Collaborating with teachers to deliver differentiated instruction that meets the diverse needs of SEN students. You will help create an inclusive environment where every student can access the curriculum and participate fully in class activities.

  • Behavioral and Emotional Support: Using your understanding of special educational needs to manage and support students who may exhibit challenging behavior. You will work closely with the school's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to implement behavior management strategies and support plans.

  • Communication and Social Skills Development: Assisting students in developing effective communication and social skills, which are essential for their overall development. This may include implementing speech and language programs or social skills interventions.

  • Resource Preparation: Assisting in the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to cater to the individual needs of SEN students. This ensures that all students have the resources they need to engage with the curriculum.

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Keeping detailed records of students’ progress, behavior, and any interventions used. You will be required to provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCO, and parents to ensure the ongoing support of the students.

  • Pastoral Support: Acting as a key worker for specific students, offering them additional pastoral care, and serving as a point of contact for students who may require emotional support or guidance.

  • Collaboration with Staff: Working closely with teachers, SENCO, and other support staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and contribute to the development of new strategies to support SEN students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, preferably within a school setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with SEN and a commitment to their personal and academic development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience, particularly when working with students who may present with challenging behavior.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A flexible approach, with the capacity to adapt to the varying needs of students.
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies and interventions is highly desirable, though training will be provided.
