The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic self starter to join our team of Field Officers, to assist with the management of our contract pig rearing farms in the Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders areaThis is mobile role with responsibility for overseeing the operation and performance of Sofina Nursery & Finisher contract pig farms, ensuring compliance with Company standards in relation to animal health and welfare as well as overall performance.

Key Accountabilities

To assist in the planning of shed filling & emptying in conjunction with the wider team. To co-ordinate with the contract farmer in the setting up, organising & implementation of mucking out & washing courts To ensure the counting of pigs on & off farm is correct & the associated paperwork is completed correctly & in a timely manner To ensure livestock on all contract units are fed, watered & bedded correctly at all times To ensure feed & consumables are ordered in a timely manner. To actively support contract farmers to reach and maintain performance targets set by the Sofina business To regularly update your line manager on the performance of the contract farms. To actively support contract farmers to attain the welfare standards set by Sofina Foods Ltd To assist with selection & marking of finished pigs to achieve required optimum weights & minimise penalties for weight & probe To complete and return all documentation as required by company protocol To assist with the training and development of others where appropriate

Skills and Experience Required

A background in agriculture & good farming practice would be an advantage Previous experience working with livestock desirable but not essential Co-ordination of logistics in a multi-site operation would be an advantage
