The department

The Cashier’s team, led by the Head Legal Cashier, works closely with the fee-earning departments to ensure that all client and matter transactions are completed in a timely and efficient manner. It is essential that the postholder has an excellent eye for detail. Training across the different roles within Cashiers will be given so it is an ideal role for someone who wants to learn all aspects of Cashiering. The team liaises with the Billing, Credit Control and the Finance Management teams so it is crucial to ensure open lines of communications and workflows are maintained across the teams as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Processing of client and/or office account payments via Barclays.net. Processing client and/or office account receipts. Processing transfers between client and office account. Processing Client to Client transfers. Preparation and processing of foreign payments via Barclays. Processing foreign supplier invoices via Corpay. Processing disbursements made using Precision Pay/Credit Cards. Processing, payment and reconciliation of disbursements including Counsel and Experts Fees, foreign and UK disbursement payments via Chrome River. Posting and checking recharges and items such as couriers, Companies House fees, Searchflow and HM Land Registry. Assistance with annual SRA audit. Assistance with residual balances. Assistance with the daily bank reconciliations. Calculating closing interest on matters as well as quarterly interest calculations.

The successful candidate will ideally have extensive cashiering experience gained within a law firm or other professional services environment and must be able to demonstrate:

An in-depth knowledge of the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules to ensure compliance with the regulations. Preferably a knowledge and experience of windows-based packages such as Microsoft Outlook and Word. Proficient using Excel. Excellent numeracy skills and attention to detail. Excellent organisational skills. Good understanding of VAT recovery processes. Experience in a Cashier’s, Finance or Legal environment essential. Knowledge of Elite 3E desirable but not essential. Understanding of billing and/or credit control desirable but not essential.
