Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the ForensicOutreach Liaison team for Learning Disabilities and/or Autism (FOLS LD/A) foran experienced, skilled, and passionate Senior Mental Health Practitioner.FOLS was established in 2019 and is a developing service. The post holder willcontribute to the development of the service as a member of the seniorleadership team; leading on quality improvement and service developments.

Thepostholder will provide clinical leadership to the team via co-working complexcases, supervision and mentoring other team members, also helping to promotethe service via networking events and establish partnership working pathwayswith partner services. The post holder will be supported to develop their ownclinical skillset in a forensic team through intervention and risk assessmenttraining opportunities and in house support.

Main duties of the job

Youwill deliver offence specific intervention and forensic risk management to meetthe needs of adults with a learning disability or autism in West Yorkshire andBarnsley. As a senior practitioner you will be key in developing and supportinglocal pathways of care and support, and evaluation of services and training tothe wider system. You will also offer consultation to our partner agencies inhealth, probation, police, social care, education and the third sector, whichis a very important aspect to our work.

As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner you will lead and support on thedevelopment and implementation of interventions for people with a learning disabilityand/or Autism within the forensic community sphere. You will be expected toprovide specialist interventions, advice, consultancy and supervision to both internaland external colleagues.

The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values serviceusers and their carers. They will embrace the core values of the organisation.The expectation is that they will have extensive experience working with thispopulation and be willing lead on an intervention pathway, undertaking trainingwhere needed.

Job responsibilities

This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The post-holder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed.

The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the post-holder when necessary and in line with the service developments.

As the lead clinician in a specialist area of practice the postholder will provide expert clinical advice and support to other professionals both within the service and to other professionals.

The post holder will be responsible for setting professional direction and delivering highly specialist clinical care to their own caseload and service within that speciality area. They will undertake specialised assessments, plan and implement specialist and contemporary evidence based interventions, evaluate efficacy of such interventions, and maintain associated records detailing input based on area of specialism

Provide specialist education and training for team and multi-agency services in keeping with specialism.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Relevant professional qualification, nursing, or other professional allied to medicine. Dip SW or relevant mental health profession. Nurse Prescriber or to complete with an agreed timeframe (if relevant for identified portfolio). Specialist Knowledge / training through a relevant post graduate qualification or demonstrable experience within the specialism.

Desirable

Experience of mentoring/supporting learners or ability to demonstrate the skills required for effective mentoring. Teaching Qualification. Masters degree or equivalent.

Substantial experience in a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Mental Health Practitioner Role. Expertise in group and/or individual work in the advanced nursing practice area Expertise in case management / primary nursing and/or equivalent Experience at training and teaching. Proven leadership /management /supervision knowledge and skills Experience of working with learning disability and or/autism or nursing in a forensic environment. Evidence of advanced clinical/therapeutic knowledge and skills in mental health. Advanced experience of safeguarding.

Essential

Post qualification training and extensive experience in identified portfolio. Substantial post qualification experience, some of which must be working with individuals with learning disability and/or autism and Carers in a Multi-Disciplinary Learning Disability / Mental Health Service. Possess advanced clinical skills. Highly specialised knowledge, skills and attitude training, up to masters level, in an area of advanced nursing practice. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance for working with learning disability, autism, mental health and safeguarding. Knowledge and experience of working with Equality and Diversity.
