Job summary

To be responsible for theprocessing of prescriptions in accordance with practice policy and currentlegislation. In addition, the post holder will be required to support thedispensary manager in ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at alltimes whilst supporting the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectivesof the practice.

Main duties of the job

Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the dispenser. There may be, onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels:

Tobe responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are nodiscrepancies

Dispensingmedicines to the entitled population safely and accurately

Collectingprescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol

Maintainingstock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary manager tofacilitate reordering

Receivingand storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chainis maintained where applicable

Ensuringcontrolled drugs are dispensed in accordance with practice policy

Ensuringsafe disposal of returned and/or out of date medicines

Ensuringall repeat prescriptions are processed within a 72-hour timeframe

Providingpatients with advice regarding all prescription matters

Processingprescription requests via email, phone, face-to-face and online

ProcessingDossett/MDS boxes

Assistingwith preparation of monthly returns if required

Maintaininga clean and safe working environment at all times

Partakein audit as directed by the audit lead

Provideguidance for trainee dispensary staff and students as necessary

Remaincurrent with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC,etc. guidance

Job responsibilities

We are currently lookingfor an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join our Dispensary team.

We requirea Dispenser to work in our Dispensary at Elmham & Swanton Morley Surgeryassisting in opening/closing the dispensary, receiving, and preparingprescriptions, prepare medicines for dispensing, checking and issuing stock,preparing remote deliveries, responding to Patient enquiries and adhering tolegislation applied in the management of controlled drugs.

Accuracyand attention to detail is essential and be able to work in a fast-pacedenvironment. Previous experience working in a GP surgery is desirable. Must beflexible to cover holidays and sickness.

DispensaryAssistant Course- Level 2 equivalent to be studied for in own time to secure apermanent position, if not already held.
