Main duties of the job

As aClinical Psychologist, you will offer high-quality psychological input to neurodiversechildren and young people, their families and professional network. This includescomplex assessment and intervention when there are significant and complexmental health supported by the pathway. You will bring advanced assessmentskills, formulation, and diagnostic thinking to your team. You will collaboratewith other pathways to support the most effective approach for children andyoung people to have consistent experiences of care.

There will be CPD opportunities to support you. These may be toconsolidate and develop knowledge and skills or to support you in transferringskills from another specialism. We provide training for all staff in ADOS and standardised developmentalhistory tools to support their assessments. Weencourage interest from candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences,both personal and professional.

You will have regular clinical supervision and line management. You willbe supported with a job plan and opportunities to develop supervision, leadership, using research skills, and engage in service development. There isa strong and friendly network of Clinical Psychologists working across CFHD, enjoyingshared CPD and professional support. We also have excellent links with localDoctoral courses for teaching and Trainee placements.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon.

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework, in response to consultation with our service users and communities.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Job responsibilities

You will be a qualified Clinical Psychologist with passion for workingwith children, young people and families. You will have the knowledge andskills to undertake complex assessments and deliver evidence-based and outcomemonitored psychological therapies. You will be a reflective practitioner withstrengths to bring to a multi-disciplinary team and consultative work. You willbe committed to service user participation and collaborative working withchildren, young people, parents, carers and families. You will have a goodunderstanding of safeguarding across the lifespan. You will have, or be willingto develop skills and knowledge to support the development of others, such assupervision and training, as well as clinical leadership skills to contribute toquality improvement and service development.

Information regarding the different pathways is detailed below:

The Neurodiversity Pathway is adeveloping integrated pathway within CFHD. The Integrated Neurodiversity Teamprovides specialist assessment and intervention for children and young peopleand their families where the presenting need relates to neurodevelopmentalconditions such as Autism Spectrum Condition, Attention Deficit HyperactivityDisorder and Tics and Tourette Syndrome.

The appointed Clinical Psychologistswill become valuable members of the multi-disciplinary team working withcolleagues including Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy,Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy and Mental Health Practitioners from a diverserange of backgrounds. This provides an opportunity to work in a team with astrong multidisciplinary ethos as well as collaborating with colleagues inother pathways and working in partnership with other agencies such as localPaediatric teams and education providers.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Experience of working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers, including using goal-based care and routine outcome measures in practice. Experience of working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team and across agencies Experience of working with a range of children and young people with complex needs maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and verbal abuse Experience of undertaking specialist psychological assessments and providing evidence based interventions, with the ability to work with complex needs and undertake risk assessments. Experience in providing teaching and training Experience of safeguarding children and ensuring the safety of young people in partnership with other agencies as appropriate. Experience that evidences an ability to attend to diversity and work in a way that promotes anti-discriminatory practice. Experience of managing and processing emotionally distressing information, seeking support as required

Desirable

Experience in using neuropsychological assessments of cognitive functioning and/or learning disabilities in the context of diagnostic assessments of learning disabilities. Experience of the assessment of capacity to consent and providing consultation to capacity assessments across a range of issues

Qualifications

Essential

A Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent Masters level qualification in Clinical Psychology if qualified before 1996. Active registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.

Desirable

Post qualification specialist therapy/assessment training relevant to children and young people Post qualification training or proven equivalent experience in supervision.
