Job overview
Barts Health NHS Trust is home to the Physician Response Unit (PRU) which was launched in 2002 with the aim to deliver safe, effective and patient-centric care in North East London by bringing the Emergency Department to the community. For 20 years the PRU has promoted a shared decision-making model which empowers patients and facilitates clinicians to identify the right care, in the right place, at the right time. In doing so, it provides definitive clinical assessment, often in patients’ own homes, delivering urgent, emergency, and palliative care which is holistic and accurately matches patients’ needs. This service is delivered through the tripartite relationship between Barts Health NHS Trust, London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London’s Air Ambulance Charity.
As part of the non-clinical responsibilities, it will be the role of the Lead Nurse to assist with day-to-day management of both nursing and AHP staff and deputise for the PRU Clinical Manager where appropriate as well as completing clinical shifts. Together with an Emergency Medicine Doctor and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) this role will travel across a designated geographical footprint within East London to treat patients at the location at which they access emergency care. The cases that the PRU are dispatched to are varied in their geographical location, social situation, clinical presentation, and life-stage of the patient. The team can be dispatched as a primary resource, or the patient can be referred for a PRU review by the London Ambulance Service or other NHS care providers.
Main duties of the job
-Overview of nursing and AHP staffing and rota coordination
-Line management of nursing staff within PRU (inclusive of military nursing staff seconded to the PRU and military liaison nurse)
-Provision of training to the PRU clinical teams both through the structured training days during sign-off period and throughout the remainder of secondments of clinical staff
-Assist in sign-off of PRU clinicians
-Work independently on PRU shifts
-To provide overview of pharmacy porcedures
-To lead on development of nursing and AHP teams alongside the PRU Clinical Manager.
-To be an active member of the PRU Senior Leadership Team and contribute in discussions to service delivery and strategic planning of the service.
-To attend weekly PRU Senior team meetings and Service D&D meetings.
-Support the development of service Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to the role and service and liaise with PRU Clinical Manager and Clinical Lead for sign off of associated SOPs.
