Job summary

Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine.

We are advertising Senior Clinical Fellow posts, based in the Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.

The post is intended to provide the clinician with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process. Our current trainees are doing secondments in ITU, Acute Medicine and Paediatrics to gain relevant educational and competency needs. The programme is for four years to be eligible for specialist registration subject to completion of FRCEM. We are exploring the possibility to have a secondment at our local major trauma centre.

The remaining nine months of the year will be working in our adult emergency department. Our department is well renowned for its training and support. We operate weekly teaching sessions incorporating a monthly journal club, simulation MDT training (with in-situ component), FRCEM mock OSCE and SAQ practice by our FRCEM examiners and supervised US Consultant body contains current FRCEM examiners, ATLS APLS & ALS instructors and all of whom are level 1 and some Level 2 US trained.

The evidence speaks for itself; we have a proven track record of our long term middle grades successfully becoming consultants via the process with the full support of the department, they would be happy to talk to you about this informally. There will be a specifically designed training and teaching package for all successful applicants and there will be a designated Consultant supervisor for the duration of the a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the 24 hour Emergency Department rota. The rotation is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months after which we would envisage an extension on a mutually agreed basis to a 12 month rolling contract.

There is also a capacity to do extra bank work within the ED and our staff are given priority so that we can secure our own trusted staff to ensure no compromise in patient care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Full registration with UK General Medical Council and a Licence to Practice Current provider status in at least one of the following advanced life support courses ATLS or ALS or other recognised equivalent course

Desirable

Should hold a relevant postgraduate qualification/diploma MRCEM Current provider status in 2 or more advanced life support courses ATLS or ALS Instructor status in ATLS or ALS

Clinical Experience

Essential

Completed at least three years full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent) at least one of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term appointment in a relevant specialty Shall have at least 12 months, full time (or its equivalent) experience of working in a Consultant led ED or have demonstrable, equivalent experience and competencies

Desirable

Demonstrates developing an area of interest in Emergency Medicine

Clinical Audit

Essential

Understanding of principles of medical audit. Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.

Should have evidence of current ongoing CPD and annual appraisal
