Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner / Specialist Respiratory Physiologist / Clinical Scientist to work as part of our friendly team providing a diagnostic Respiratory and Sleep service to both in-patients and out-patients. Applicants seeking full-time or part-time work will be considered. The principal hospitals within CDDFT are Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of North Durham, Bishop Auckland Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital. The Cardiology & Respiratory Investigations Units comprise a team of approximately 40 staff who provide a broad range of procedures including echocardiography, stress echocardiography, TOE, angiography, pacing implant / follow-up, device follow up, tilt, nerve conduction, lung function testing and sleep studies. We are actively developing services and encourage personal development / extension of roles. The hospital base for this post is Bishop Auckland Hospital however you will regularly be required to work at the University Hospital of North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of a team in the busy Cardio-Respiratory departments. They will be a specialist in respiratory physiology and sleep science, and will provide delivery of the highest quality respiratory and sleep services. They will work closely with colleagues to ensure that protocols and procedures meet local and national requirements for good practice and service delivery. They will provide a range of respiratory and some cardiology investigations, and produce evidence-based clinical reports. They will provide training to other healthcare professionals and students and will supervise junior staff, as well as deputise for more senior staff on occasions. Main roles and responsibilities: Perform Full Pulmonary Function Testing, including MIP and MEP measurements, bronchodilator response, FeNO and CPET and 6MWT Document Quality Control measures on Specialist Equipment, highlighting trends and correcting errors. Fit and analyse home sleep polygraphyProvide training on fundamental aspects of respiratory physiology and testing. Support the implementation of new respiratory services within the trust.

BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science: Respiratory and Sleep Physiology or BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or MSc Clinical Science (Respiratory & Sleep Sciences) or equivalent Or BSc in a relevant scientific subject and working towards Practitioner Training Programme equivalence or Scientist Training Programme Equivalence, followed by acceptance onto AHCS / HCPC professional register. For staff who are not on the AHCS / HCPC register, Annex 21 will apply until the advanced professional qualification is obtained. Have or be willing to work towards an advanced professional qualification - ARTP Practitioner Examination / ARTP Pulse Oximetry and Polygraphy Practitioner Certificate or equavalent. Immediate Life Support, or willing to undertake this within 6 months of employment.
