As a result of investment, a new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and suitably skilled Occupational Therapist to join the Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation Team based at The Llandough Specialist Spinal and Neuro Rehabilitation Centre, University Hospital Llandough. The Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation Unit is a Level 1 unit providing specialist assessment and rehabilitation for service users with highly complex neurological impairment including the PDOC (Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness) PathwayService, supporting outreach in the acute and community across the region.

Main duties of the job

To provide expert clinical knowledge, opinion and practice for those with complex neurological needs including those in PDOC using evidence based/ person centred principles and developing professional practice in line with national guidelines.

To support leadership and specialist Occupational Therapy clinical delivery within the neurorehabilitation unit, provide specialist training, consultation and education regarding complex brain injury in non-specialist settings prior to admission or on repatriation.

To support the delivery of PDOC assessment and management within the neuro rehabilitation unit, plus outreach in line with national clinical guidelines. Service delivery includes support for 24-hour physical management, sensory opportunities and environmental regulation, specialist assessment of awareness to inform PDOC diagnosis, family support and best interests discussions around care and treatment.

Working with the Occupational Therapy specialist neuro rehabilitation team, you will support the continued development of a high-quality, evidence-based Occupational Therapy Service.

Qualifications

Essential

Qualification in Occupational Therapy at degree level or equivalent HCPC Registration Evidence of recent formal training/ learning and continued professional development at a higher level

Desirable

Post-graduate qualifications in a wide selection of clinical conditions Masters level qualification or equivalent

Skills

Essential

Advanced clinical reasoning/problem solving skills within clinical areas and therapeutic handling Knowledge of current healthcare policies and application in clinical area in order to contribute to service development. Proven leadership skills Ability to manage a clinical caseload Mechanisms of Audit and research methodology.

Specialist knowledge

Essential

Specialist knowledge in the clinical area. Awareness of Health and Safety/ clinical risk management Knowledge and understanding of services that link across the primary/secondary care interface to provide integrated care. This is to include voluntary organisations.
