About the Role

T o manage the annual closing process, statement of accounts, collection fund and government returns, ensuring successful audits.

The Financial Reporting Manager will:

Lead and manage the annual closing of accounts process and production of the Statement of Accounts; Manage responses to Public Inspection of Accounts; Manage responses to and work with external auditors to facilitate successful audits of the annual Statement of Accounts; Manage the accounting processes and procedures needed to maintain high standards of financial reporting; Manage completion of financial government returns; and Budget, forecast and account for the Collection Fund and other central revenue budgets and transactions.

The post holder will report to the Head of Financial Reporting & Control and take lead responsibility for the above in relation to one of the two boroughs covered by the Finance Shared Service. The Financial Reporting Manager will work together with another Financial Reporting Manager and a Financial Systems & Control Manager, leading the Financial Reporting & Control team and supporting each other to achieve these goals in relation to both boroughs. The Financial Reporting Manager will manage two to three direct reports.

About Us

The Financial Reporting & Control team covers financial reporting, systems, control and tax, as part of the Finance Shared Service for London Borough of Sutton and Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames.

The Shared Finance Service ambition is to add value, inspire success and this role is part of the Shared Finance Service (SFS) collectively responsible for delivering SFS activities to realise this ambition.

About You

The successful candidate will be CCAB (or equivalent) qualified, with detailed knowledge & experience of closing the financial accounts for a large Local Authority, including liaison with Internal and External Auditors. They will have knowledge of financial reporting requirements and accounting standards for a Local Authority. This will include accounting for fixed assets, experience of which will be important. Knowledge and experience of Collection Fund accounting will be a great advantage as this is a key part of the role. They will have experience of identifying and delivering improvements to achieve better outcomes or reduced costs.

The post holder will need to work closely and effectively with the team and other colleagues to achieve their objectives and so people skills and management skills will be crucial for this role. It will also be important to take ownership and show commitment towards the team goals.
