Job summary

Our Perinatal Wellbeing Service is expanding and we need an experienced midwife who has a passion for excellence and is dedicated in supporting women and birthing people, at risk of or whom, are experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions.

We support women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, pregnant or are in the postnatal period. Our team provides high quality, evidence-based specialist advice, assessment, and referral for interventions working closely with obstetricians, psychiatrists, IAPT, nurses, OT's, social workers, to provide holistic and quality care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

Midwives play a central role in promoting theemotional wellbeing of women, birthing people and their babies, ensuring that all women who experience concerns get appropriate and timely care.

The postholder will

Work alongside the Perinatal Mental Health Lead Midwife in supporting women and birthing people with mental health concerns. This will entail triaging, taking detailed histories and then creating comprehensive care plans to support them during their pregnancy and postnatal period. Ensure that continued development and maintenance of appropriate pathways for women with existing and developing mental health problems are adhered to using local and regional strategies. Work in collaboration with the internal and external multi- disciplinary team that may be involved in the care of this cohort of patients. Be able to deliver appropriate training to the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate according to the Maternity Education Strategy.

Deputise for the Perinatal Mental Health Lead Midwife when required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Act as an advocate for women to ensure that they receive the specialist mental health care required. To recognise the emotional, spiritual and psychological needs of the family and endeavour to meet these within the maternal mental health context. Ensure there is routine screening and early identification of women with, or at risk of mental illness. Update patient records accordingly on all digital platforms in particular care plans for women with severe mental health concerns.

When the escalation policy requires the post holder may be required to support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.

Education & Professional Registration

Essential

NMC Registered Midwife 3 years experience Mentorship/SSSA qualification

Desirable

oEvidence of recent experience in the field of perinatal mental health, or attendance at specific training.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

3 years experience working within an NHS trust Ability to develop, plan and implement short and long range goals. Understanding of health policy and the national and regional midwifery agenda and its application to this post

Ability to think and work strategically Can demonstrate successful management of change in previous positions held
