Job summary

We are recruiting student midwives to join our Maternity services at the Royal London Hospital.

The 20 Month BSc(Hons) Midwifery Shortened Programme at Middlesex University aims to produce competent, caring, research and evidence-based midwives, capable of delivering effective woman-centred care for mothers and their families.

During the 20 Month course, time will be split between the Middlesex University, and Royal London Hospital.

Main duties of the job

In order to apply for the course, you will have:

Active Adult Nursing Registration (NMC Registration) Diploma or degree in Adult Nursing Proven post registration experience GCSE Maths and English or equivalencies or IELTS 7.

Students applying for this funded training post (mid point band 5) should note that HEE are paying tuition fees until April 2026.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To attain a registered midwifery qualification.

To communicate effectively with women and their families and provide a high standard of Midwifery care throughout preconception, antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal periods under the supervision of the Registered Midwife/Mentor.

To diagnose pregnancy, assess and monitor women holistically throughout the preconception, antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal stages through the use of a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive conclusions under the supervision of the Registered Midwife/Mentor.

To work towards achieving the midwifery standards of proficiency agree with the HEI provider and set out in the Midwifery Practice Assessment Document.

To work towards achieving experience under supervision of the activities of the midwife as outlined in the European Union Midwives Directive (80/155/EEC Article 4).

Qualifications

Essential

A registered Adult nurse (level 1) with current registration with the NMC A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2:2: with a minimum qualification of Diploma in Higher Education with evidence of study at Level 6

Experience

Essential

At least 6 months post qualification clinical working experience as an adult nurse on the NMC register in the UK
