Job summary

The Grange Practice is seeking to welcome a Practice Nurseto the surgery team. Working within our already experienced and diverse nursingteam; as well as the wider multidisciplinary clinical and non-clinical team;and in line with the practices values; you will provide a high standard ofpatient focused, high quality and holistic medical care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Your nursing experience to date will include the safe and effective practice of key tasks, including wound care, dressings, venepuncture and electrocardiograms (ECGs). Other areas of experience would be desirable and would provide additional value to our existing staff and patients. Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Nurse. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Essential:

To assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the Lead Practice Nurse, Practice Manager, GPs and other Clinicians To ensure adequate provision of a treatment room service including wound care/ulcer care/manual dopplers and immunisation programmes Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines To provide a new patient/heart screening programme by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise To initially assess and manage minor trauma and to liaise with the Doctor as appropriate. To assist with minor surgical procedures Collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc. Suture removal Performance of ECGs Recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines Ability to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

Desirable

To provide and manage chronic disease in line with Practice protocols. Currently this will mainly involve illnesses such as Asthma, Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus but in future others such as Ischaemic Heart Disease, smoking cessation and COPD will be incorporated. To order Health Promotion Literature relevant to your Chronic Disease Clinics. To offer childhood vaccinations and help achieve targets To offer a travel health service which includes appropriate advice and vaccinations for adult and child patients. To assist in maintenance of cervical cytology screening programme To assist GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings To perform and interpret Spirometry with ARTP accreditation To provide ear syringing To offer contraception checks To order vaccinations to maintain stock levels Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register First degree or equivalent NMC Registered with no restrictions on practice GCSE in grade A to C in English (or equivalent) GCSE in grade A to C in Maths (or equivalent) Health Care Experience

Knowledge and skills

Essential

Comprehensive, specialised, factual, and theoretical knowledge within a field of work and an awareness of the boundaries of that knowledge. Use knowledge to solve problems creatively, make judgements which require analysis and interpretation, and actively contribute to service and self-development.
