Social Work Team Leader - Disabled Children's Team

We are currently recruiting for a Social Work Team Leader within our Children with Disabilities Team, who will be responsible for managing Senior Practitioners, Social Workers and Family support workers.

The Disabled Children’s Family Support Team sits within Children's Social Care’s Identification and Assessment division. The team is based in Moor Lane, Chessington and covers the boroughs of Richmond and Kingston. The team work with children and young people up to the age of 18 years old who are significantly and profoundly disabled and focus their work on a number of different areas including:

About the role

As a Social Work Team Leader within the Disabled Children's team, you will provide the operational management and leadership support across the service and support the Head of Service. The post holder will ensure that high levels of quality interventions, effective case management oversight, decision making and overall performance is undertaken in the best interests of children, young people and their families by using AfC’s social work practice model, Signs of Safety, agreed quality standards and operating procedures. Their role will include representing the service at operational, strategic, multi agency, and others meetings as appropriate.

The Team Leader will support the team's professional development and have a strong understanding of how to maximise productivity, performance and achieve the best outcomes for children, young people and their families alongside the workforce’s development. They will be expected to develop and lead a culture of partnership and innovation, so that services are child focussed, flexible and adaptable. The whole organisation should learn from mistakes, share knowledge and challenge existing practice.

About you

The successful applicant for the team Leader role will have:

Experience of working with children and young people who have disabilities, including an understanding of various communication methods that may be used in engaging with children and young people who may have different ways of communicating. An understanding of what Short Breaks legislation entails and how this could be provided to best support children, young people and their families. Significant social work practice and experience of working on safeguarding cases, some of which are complex. Experience of managing case workers who deliver social work with children, young people and their parents/families with safeguarding issues. Experience of building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families. Advocating the voices of those we are working with. Experience of keeping and maintaining records (in accordance with local policy) and producing accurate reports, presentations, written updates to a range of stakeholders (which may include families, children or young people). Strong awareness of risk management and safeguarding in the context of social care including legislation, policy and procedures related to responsibilities. Experience of addressing specific equality or diversity issues within your practice with colleagues/service users and taking action to solve them.
