Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the NELFT Acute Mental Health Occupational Therapy Service.

Morris ward is a low secure inpatient service which cares for patients detained under the mental health act who requires care and treatment, under conditions of low security due to the nature of the risk they pose to themselves and others.

The service will accept men aged 18 and over with severe and enduring mental illness who have persistent, complex and challenging needs who cannot be safely assessed and treated in an open and acute facility and do not require the level of security only available in medium and high secure settings.

This includes histories of aggression, absconding, criminal offences, severe and intractable clinical symptoms, serious drug alcohol misuse.

The ward team includes a medical team, consultant psychiatrist, nurses and occupational therapists.

Occupational Therapy Assistants work with multi-disciplinary teams contributing their unique knowledge and skills, supporting service users to increase their independence and achieve their personal goals while supporting recovery and social inclusion.

Main duties of the job

Within this service you will have the opportunity to work with service users throughout the acute mental health care pathway, supporting the provision of specialist OT assessment and interventions to service users as inpatients, in the community and in their homes.

You will work alongside Occupational Therapists and other OT Assistants and Apprentices to provide a recovery focussed occupational therapy service including 1:1 and group work.
