CAMHSCrisis and Home Treatment Pathwayare looking for resilient, innovative, and motivated Occupational Therapist who ispassionate about improving the lives and mental health of our young people.

Our pathway provides crisis support and intensive home treatment to youngpeople who are experiencing mental health crisis and emotional distress. Theservice can be fast paced, and the ideal applicant will be extremely organisedand self-motivated to provide high quality assessment and formulation for theyoung people within the service. We provide evidence-based assessments andinterventions for young people keeping with the principles of the iTHRIVEmodel. The team provide a creative, trauma informed and pro-active approach in engaging young people andtheir families. The individual will be able to work independently but also workwell in a team.

Main duties of the job

The pathway has five functions which you will have theopportunity to train and gain experience in all areas:

Crisis Liaison

To respond to CYP presenting in mental health crisis at thelocal general hospital using a psychiatric liaison model to facilitate safe andtimely discharge.

Crisis Community

To respond to CYP who present in crisis within thecommunity that have been referred in. Clinicians will complete a psychosocialassessment, risk management and signpost.

Home Treatment

The team offer CYP an intense community approach to avoidhospital admission and provides step down support when discharged from a mentalhealth inpatient unit.

ITASC

CYP who have experienced multiple and complex trauma whichis impacting on their mental health. Clinicians will further assess need withthe aim to get the CYP therapy ready as well as liaising with theirprofessional network.

You will be well supported, with continuing opportunitiesfor professional development, support from your line manager and the rest ofthis dedicated team. We have access to several relevant and excellent trainingprogrammes which include AMBIT, Solution Focus, Motivational Interviewing, DBTand other tools appropriate for this role.

You will be offered a robust staff induction period whereyou will be supported to build on your knowledge and skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1a

This post holder will work within the CAMHS Crisis and HTT as an Occupational Therapist, however the role will focus more on the home treatment and therapeutic side of the pathway.

2a

Work with families in their homes, education, and community settings and at base as appropriate/required by children/young people and their families.

3a

To provide specialist occupational therapy assessments and reports regarding children and young peoples daily living skills and occupational performance.

4a

Demonstrate effective skills in the assessment and reassessment of risk and communicate concerns accurately in a timely fashion.

5a

Organise own workload and be responsible for managing time effectively.

6a

The Post holder will be aware of NICE guidance relevant to post.

7a

To work closely with the wider stakeholder group, by attending multi-agency meetings such as, child protection case conferences, Early Help Assessment, Education Health Care plan meetings

8a

The post holder may support colleagues on the CAMHS Duty Response rota which operates daily.

9a

To contribute to the development of team protocols and clinical practice, proposing changes for discussion.

10a

Keep up to date with safeguarding training and policies.

11a

To co-facilitate therapeutic groups for an identified group of children and young people and evaluating the outcomes and progress for the children attending.

12a

To communicate complex information with clarity and sensitivity to families or carers and to ensure that information is shared appropriately with other professional within the multidisciplinary team and from external agencies.

13a

To provide

a. Clinical assessment and formulation

b. Assess and manage risk.

c. Care planning

d. Intervention using a range of therapeutic modalities

e. Hold a case load as identified in the post holders job plan

f. Determining the point of discharge and agreeing this with the child, young person, and family.

g. Communicating appropriately the clinical information to the General Practitioner, relevant professionals, and parent/carers where appropriate.

h. All documentation must be compliant with Livewell Southwest policys including CPA

14a

To participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.

15a

To arrange own clinical supervision.

16a

To be aware of and familiar with Livewell Southwests policies and procedures and operate within that , lone working policy.

17a

Ensure the agreed outcome measures are adhered to within the post holders area of work.

18a

Ensure participation with children and young people to improve service provision is included within CAMHS and undertaken at every opportunity

B. Management of Resources

1b

To ensure that relevant sections of CAMHS policy and clinical pathways and referral criteria are kept up to date and shared with the multi-agency network.

2b

To be responsible for planning and delivery of occupational therapy within the service, prioritising clinical needs in order to ensure delivery of an efficient and effective service.

3b

To demonstrate autonomy and initiative in managing the occupational therapy service and reviewing workload, liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team in relation to delivery of group work and individual sessions.

4b

To take an active role in the ongoing development of the occupational therapy service, working closely with families, children and young people and members of the multidisciplinary team to provide specialist input.

5b

To organise the necessary equipment prescription as appropriate following a period of assessment and intervention. This will include demonstrating and teaching the safe use of materials and equipment to children, young people, their families, and the multidisciplinary team.

To ensure comprehensive records for patients are kept, including information on their attendance for treatments are stored using relevant data protection systems.

C.Workforce and managing people

To promote a culture that fosters staff involvement and a progressive attitude to service improvement, is free from harassment and bullying and respects the dignity and diversity of all staff.

Organise and mentor students and placements within CAMHS.

To provide supervision to junior clinicians.

D.Corporate and Other Responsibilities

To undertake duties in a corporate role as may be reasonably expected in accordance with the grade of the post and in line with other Senior Practitioners to ensure the attainment of team and service objectives.

To ensure that all duties within the role are delivered in accordance with LSW policy and procedure and professional registration.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application. Knowledge of mental health legislation. Self-motivated Good ability planning and organisational skills. Computer literacy Enthusiastic about the service and delivery of Occupational Therapy to children and young people with highly complex needs Ambitious hardworking, with a proactive approach to work. Qualifications

Essential

Degree in Occupational Therapy Professional Registration HCPC Demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

Child Protection Training Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapist (BAOT) Evidence of post qualifying training relevant to CAMHS Working toward or completing Sensory Integration training Member of the Sensory Integration Network.

Experience

Essential

Minimum of two years experience as an Occupational Therapist working either in Mental Health or Paediatrics Experience of supporting children and young people who have complex social emotional, neurodevelopmental and/or learning disability. Experience of working with a multidisciplinary team. Experience of group work. Experience of using sensory processing and modulation techniques supported by evidence based practice.

Desirable

Experience of working with developmental problems Currently or working toward becoming a Clinical Educator Experience of being a clinical supervisor.

Ability to travel across Plymouth Ability to work flexibly both as an individual and with other colleagues in Livewell Southwest and with partner agencies. Able to undertake the demand of the post with reasonable adjustments where required.
