Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic occupationaltherapist (OT) to join our multi-disciplinary CAMHS Inpatient Adolescent Team.

Plym Bridge House is a 12 bed, regional Tier 4unit. We serve young people from Devon (and nationally) aged between 12 and 18years, with severe and complex mental health presentations such as PTSD,psychotic states, eating disorders, OCD and severe depression/anxietyconditions.

There is an experienced therapy team comprisingof occupational therapy, clinical psychology and family therapy. This isalongside a large nursing team, medical and education teams.

The post holder will be expected to usetechnical/creative skills to assist in the provision of a flexible,person-centred programme of therapeutic activities for individuals and groupsof young people at Plym Bridge House.

This post includes funding and study time for a MSc in AdvancingPractice Sensory Integration with Ulster University. Sensory Integrationassessments are something we would like the successful candidate to train inand ultimately administer for Plym Bridge House.

This is an exciting opportunity to join arespected team who engage in rewarding and intensive work with the most complexand challenging presentations. The service is part of the broader PlymouthCAMHS and the post-holder will be part of the child mental health OT departmentand the OT service across Livewell.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure that:

Young people and their occupational functioning are considered within the familial, social and institutional context. Various models of group work will be applied, along with individual programmes of care as part of the overall treatment package within the unit.

Specialized Occupational Therapy skills with both individuals and groups are applied.

Joint work with other team members (nursing staff, therapists and medical staff) and to play a vital role in the shared assessment and treatment of young people at Plym Bridge.

All Livewell Southwest staff are expected to able andwilling to work across a 7 day service.

Job responsibilities

.CLINICAL

Key Results:

To provide an Occupational Therapy service at Plym BridgeHouse in accordance with the overall aims of the unit and multidisciplinaryteam.

This will include leading of a group programme on the unit;specialist individual and group assessment and treatment of young people;contributing to the clinical understanding of patients within themultidisciplinary team.

Key Activities :

To provide clinical leadership within the OT team (the band5 OT and OTA)

To plan appropriate assessments and interventions,evaluating the progress of adolescents in accordance with the aims of themultidisciplinary team.

To provide specialized group and individual work foradolescents on the unit.

To liaise with the multidisciplinary team by attendingnecessary clinical meetings and providing verbal and written reports asrequired.

To support the development of therapy services and promotea therapeutic milieu within the unit.

To develop individual programmes of care, working with the youngperson, their families/ carers and members of the multidisciplinary team inaccordance with patient-centred principles.

To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevantprotocols and procedures, including risk assessment and clinical governanceprocedures.

To participate in clinical reviews and discharge planningmeetings as appropriate, providing specialist advice to other members of themultidisciplinary team.

To provide specialist Occupational Therapy ADL and CPA reportsrelevant to the practice setting.

To communicate complex information with clarity andsensitivity to young people, their families or carers and to ensure thatinformation is shared appropriately with other professionals within themultidisciplinary team and from external agencies.

To assist in the advising and training of all staff acrossthe multidisciplinary team in relation to the role of Occupational Therapywithin the inpatient unit.

2. PROFESSIONAL

To take responsibility for further postgraduate development through theprocess of supervision and appraisal.

To ensure continuing professional expertise and standards throughattending relevant courses, in service training, conducting literature reviewsand research to promote evidence-based practice.

To take the lead in the training, supervision and assessment ofOccupational Therapy students on clinical practice rotation.

To maintain and regularly update knowledge and training in relation toChild Safeguarding.

To maintain a professional portfolio in line with post registrationrequirements. This will include planningfor and undertaking postgraduate training programmes appropriate to career pathand the needs of the service.

To conduct all communications and behaviour in a professional manner,in line with the guidelines and protocols of the Royal College of OccupationalTherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council. To adhere to all policies and procedures asrequired by Livewell SouthWest.

3.ORGANISATIONAL

KeyResults:

Tobe responsible for planning and delivery of Occupational Therapy within theadolescent unit, prioritizing clinical needs in order to ensure delivery of anefficient and effective service.

Postholder fully engaged with activities relating to Policy, Service Developmentand Clinical Governance.

Key Activities:

Todemonstrate autonomy and initiative in managing the Occupational Therapy Team workloadand liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team in relation todelivery of group work and individual sessions.

Toensure that comprehensive records for patients are kept, including informationon their attendance for treatments and stored using the relevant datacollection system.

Toorganise the necessary equipment used in the assessment and treatment of theyoung people in the unit. This willinclude demonstrating and teaching the safe use of materials and equipment toyoung people or members of the multidisciplinary team.

Totake an active role in the ongoing development of the Tier 4 inpatient service,working closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team and providingspecialist input in relation to the development of Occupational Therapy withinthe unit.

Tosupport and lead the Occupational Therapy Assistant and band 5 OT with theirroles on the unit.

4. EDUCATION & RESEARCH

To take the lead in the training, supervision and assessment ofOccupational Therapy students on clinical practice rotation.

Thedevelopment of innovative occupational therapy assessment and interventionprocedures and work related to the better care of children, adolescents andfamilies and is supported by appropriate research.

Theprovision of a valuable resource for others in terms of knowledge and expertiserelating to research knowledge and practice in the occupational therapy field.
