Career progression of the current post holder has released this key position to allow a committed and self-motivated Pharmacist to lead our Pharmacy services to Trauma Orthopaedics and Orthogeriatric patients at Colchester hospital.

You will be ward-based at Colchester Hospital and will be a fully established member of the multi-disciplinary team; you will be pivotal in developing our clinical service within the speciality.

Our friendly pharmacy team are dedicated to nurturing, mentoring and developing our staff to reach their full potential. We provide pharmacy forums, tutorials and weekly ICS/ESNEFT delivered educational workshops. We support personal development plans, smart objective setting and opportunities for study.

ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and a Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

About our Pharmacy Service

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of medicines within Orthopaedic Services; minimising drug wastage and managing the use of high-cost medicines accordingly.

Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to Orthopaedic services in line with the pharmacy Key Performance Indicators and agreed clinical standards.

Provide ongoing clinical support and guidance to pharmacy colleagues contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within Orthopaedic Services and other clinical areas.

Take a proactive role in the ongoing mentoring and coaching of junior doctor colleagues with regard to safe prescribing, medicines reconciliation and the electronic discharge process.

Develop clinical pharmacy input into Orthopaedic/Orthogeriatric Services and provide departmental leadership into this speciality. This will also involve close collaboration with colleagues from Ipswich hospital to ensure cross-site consistency of practice. Work collaboratively with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Elective Orthopaedics (Colchester site) providing mutual support and ensuring as consistent a service as practically possible.
