Job Purpose

To lead the development and delivery of communication skills from year 1 to 5 in the Undergraduate Medical School at the University of Glasgow. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. To lead the development and delivery of communication skills from year 1 to 5 in theundergraduate medical school at the University of Glasgow Tutor Recruitment and Development 2. To lead recruitment, training, development, and evaluation of tutors in Year 3 Communication Skills3. To contribute to Years 1&2 by working in partnership with the Vocational Studies team to deliver early years Communication Skills training.4. To lead on development and delivery of Communication Skills in years 3, 4 & 5 as required to ensure high quality learning experience in Communication Skills for medical students.5. To work with EDI Leads and Medical School colleagues to develop and deliver Active Bystander training.6. To respond to feedback from Communication Skills Tutors Undergraduate teaching 7. To lead the delivery of Communication Skills in Year 3 and Communications Skills for GAP (Glasgow Access Programme)8. To oversee and co-ordinate the delivery of Communication skills throughout theundergraduate curriculum (including GAP)9. To lead on developing scenarios for Year 3 and support Leads in Vocational Studies10. To support the training of simulated patients (volunteer patients and actors) Course work development and assessment 11. To lead on development and delivery of Communication Skills OSCE stations throughoutthe curriculum12. To lead on update of documentation for Communication Skills13. To participate in student assessment in all years of the curriculum including writing,assessing and ensuring quality assurance (including GAP) Administration 14. To attend committees and meetings as Communication Skills lead in the undergraduateschool and at national meetings15. To deputise for colleagues at committees and meetings at the undergraduate school and atnational meetings16. To undertake duties relating to the organisation and support of teaching as delegated by the Director of Community Based Medical Education17. To attend, participate and lead in meetings and conferences on medical education18. To work towards a qualification in medical education or equivalent.19. To contribute towards scholarship and research in health care education. Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential: A1 Educated to MBChB. Possession of MRCGP.A2 Knowledge of current educational principles and best practice in medical education. Skills Essential: C1 Leadership and management skills.C2 Advanced communication skills - written and oral. C3 Excellent presentation and small group/facilitation skills.C4 Excellent report writing skills. C5 Good IT skills.C6 Able to work independently and as part of a team. C7 Self-motivated.C8 Able to relate effectively to staff at all levels. C9 Excellent organisational, time-management and administrative skills. Experience Essential: E1 Experience of, and clinical base in general practice; teaching experience in practice and/ or in campus-based GP teaching. Staffing There are eleven academic staff involved in the development and delivery of the curriculum in general practice. There are over 80 community-based tutors in Years 1 and 2, and over 200 community-based GP tutors in Years 3 to 5. There is a GP teaching professional services team who support the delivery of campus-based sessions. Terms and Conditions  Salary will be on GP Educator Scale, GP00, £104,268 per annum pro-rata This post is part time, 8 hours per week (2 sessions) and open ended.
