Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed Band 4 Psychology assistant to join our Health and Wellbeing Team at Vinney Green Secure Children's Home. We value multi-disciplinary team (MDT) working and our service includes Psychologists, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatry, Substance Misuse Practitioner and Speech and Language Therapist.

You would be supporting the clinical activities of the three Clinical Psychologists and there would be opportunity for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary working. The role will involve contributing to assessments, support, and interventions with Young People, holding a small therapeutic caseload, opportunity to attend and contribute to the delivery of training, be part of formulation meetings and contribute to collating and formatting information, and support the running of therapeutic groups alongside MDT professional staff. The role also includes assisting with audits, managing databases and service development and the development of therapeutic resources.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision, assess and provide psychological interventions and/or co-lead group work for Young People and communicate complex and sensitive information to users who may be distressed or angry.

Support with clinically related administration

Involvement in structured assessments, , ADHD, ASC

Administer and score psychometric tests with Young People including making judgements about suitability of assessment at the time and deciding on alternative options as necessary.

Attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings

Use a computer as necessary for clinical work, including literature searches, word processing, inputting data, emailing, report writing and other tasks as necessary for the efficient running of the service and/or training needs

Support the team in their use of routine outcome measures and in the collation of data.

Identify the individual care needs of allocated children and/or adolescents and assist qualified members of the team in implementing and evaluating support/interventions

Capable of working in clinical situations which may involve distressing or emotionally demanding circumstances or where there is risk of verbal or physical aggression

Fully observe the BPS (2006) Code of Ethics and Conduct and the DCP (1995) Professional Practice Guidelines.

Participate in regular managerial and clinical supervision.

Awareness of, and to adhere to Trust, South Gloucestershire and Vinney Green policies and procedures

About us

Vinney Green is a Secure Children's Home. Vulnerable children are placed in Secure Children's Home (SCH) when they are remanded to custody by the courts or are serving a custodial sentence. The Young people that are placed at SCHs often have a range of complex needs, missed a large amount of education, have unmet emotional and physical health needs and have experienced significant levels of trauma in their lives. SCHs provide a safe place where these young people can receive the care, education and support they need, with the aim of supporting them to develop a range of personal skills, aided by changes in behaviour and attitude, which will enable them to manage safely and responsibly when they return to the wider community. The young persons are supported within the SECURE STAIRS framework.
