Following its opening in 2019, the Peninsula Heart Clinic is an independently operated cardiology centre in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Treatment at the Peninsula Heart Clinic is delivered through a brand new, state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab, 5-bed recovery, 5-chair radial lounge, 3 individual ensuite bedrooms and extensive outpatient clinic facilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Cardiac Catheter Lab team assistingmedical staff with diagnostic and interventional procedures, angiogram, PCI, pacing and EPS . In this theatre style environment thenurse/practitioner will have both scrub and circulating duties. There is a requirement to wear a lead PPE during the procedures.

You will be required to promote and maintain a caring and highly professional standard of nursing, meeting the needs of the patients pre and post cath lab procedures. You will act as a professional role model. The successful candidate will be an RGN (min 2 yrs experience in a cardiology setting), will be ILS trained and will have an awareness of how to deal with cardiac emergencies and post cath-lab-procedure complications.

JOBSUMMARY

Toassist the Cardiologists, acting as 2nd operator, during diagnosticinvestigations and procedures carried out in the cardiac catheterisationlaboratory and to co-ordinate the services provided within the laboratory andassociated day unit.

REQUIREMENTS& RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL

Holdsfirst level registration.

Assesses,plans, implements and evaluates programmes of care.

Recordsvital signs and report any deterioration of clinical condition to senior nurse.

Beable to recognise life threatening arrhythmias and summon help.

Beable to perform and interpret ECGs.

Ableto perform venepuncture and cannulation.

ILStrained.

Scrubfor patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation, pacemaker implantation andPCI.

Teachand supervise junior staff nurses and unqualified staff.

Abilityto lead the unit team if required.

Beable to help prepare & escort patients under supervision if needed during transfer to NHS hospital for urgent/ongoing/emergency care.

Preparethe lab for clinical procedures.

Maintainsabsolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and alsointer-personal issues with colleagues.

Interpretthe significance of the patients clinical observations and records, makingdecisions and planning in areas affecting patient care; report promptly tomedical or appropriate staff any matters, which fall outside his/herresponsibility.

Assistwith manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Moving andHandling policy.

Maintainthe privacy and dignity of patients and staff at all times.

Todeliver a high-quality cardiology service to our patients at all times.

MANAGERIAL

Tolead care management and delivery.
