Wehave a fantastic opportunity for a phlebotomist to join our friendly outpatientteam at Kidderminster Treatment Centre. We are looking for an individualwho is caring, compassionate, reliable, and punctual.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing venepuncture on our role also requires precision, excellent communication skills and an understanding of laboratory requirements. Experience in venepuncture is essential.

Risk Assessment:

The post involves manualhandling activities, exposure to bodily fluids and exposure to high noiselevels. It may also involve exposure to challenging behaviour.

Job Purpose:

Demonstrate competency as aphlebotomist.

Responsible for day to daymanagement for the taking of phlebotomy procedures

To co-ordinate the tasksrequired of the Phlebotomy team.

To mentor, supervise andteach new members of the Phlebotomy team and staff and student nurses withinthe outpatients department.

To support the outpatientsstaff to provide a high quality service.

Participate in servicedevelopment.

Key Duties:

Phlebotomy Duties:

The post holder will liaisewith clinical and nursing teams.

The post holder will assessand confirm the patients identity matches that on the request form, followingtrust policy. Any discrepancies must be reported to the appropriate clinicianor nurse in charge

The post holder willascertain the specimen requirements and collect blood by venepuncture intoappropriate containers

The post holder will ensureaccurate and legible labelling of specimen tubes, following the Trust Policy

The post holder will ensurethat specimens are sent to the laboratory.

The post holder will disposeof clinical waste in line with Trust Policies
