WORCESTERSHIRE ACUTE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST JOB DESCRIPTION Post Title: Phlebotomist Pay Band: 2 Hours: Part Time Location / Department: Kidderminster Treatment Centre Accountable to: Outpatient Manager / Lead Nurse Key Working Relationships: Manager of Outpatients Department Band 6 Sister in Outpatient Department Lead Phlebotomist Matron Directorate Manager Nursing Staff, OPD and Ward Clinical Staff, Consultants. GPs Patients and their relatives/cares/significant others Risk Assessment: The post involves manual handling activities, exposure to bodily fluids and exposure to high noise levels. It may also involve exposure to challenging behaviour. Job Purpose: Demonstrate competency as a phlebotomist.

Responsible for day to day management for the taking of phlebotomy procedures To co-ordinate the tasks required of the Phlebotomy team. To mentor, supervise and teach new members of the Phlebotomy team and staff and student nurses within the outpatients department. To support the outpatients staff to provide a high quality service. Participate in service development.

**Key Duties**: Phlebotomy Duties: The post holder will liaise with clinical and nursing teams. The post holder will assess and confirm the patients identity matches that on the request form, following trust policy. Any discrepancies must be reported to the appropriate clinician or nurse in charge The post holder will ascertain the specimen requirements and collect blood by venepuncture into appropriate containers The post holder will ensure accurate and legible labelling of specimen tubes, following the Trust Policy The post holder will ensure that specimens are sent to the laboratory. The post holder will dispose of clinical waste in line with Trust Policies
