Job summary
The Mental Health Joint Response Car initiative is part of the NHS England Long Term Plan and is being rolled out across the country to support people in mental health crisis, attended by Ambulance. The aim of the resources is to provide patients with a more appropriate response and robust discharge plan for on going mental health care and support.
The clinicians on the vehicle will be actively looking for mental health related incidents to reduce potential unneeded conveyances to Emergency Departments. Clinicians will also assist crew by giving advice over the phone or if available face to face to support with complex mental health presentations.
We would like to invite eligible Paramedics and Senior EMT's with 2 years or more post qualification to apply for a position to work on the Mental Health Joint Response Vehicle. After a successful pilot the ICB have funded for 2 permanent and 2 x 6 month seconded vacancies to begin in May 2024.
Applications are sought for Band 6 Paramedics or Senior EMTs to work on the MHJRV alongside a Mental Health Nurse working for EPUT.
The car will operate 7 days a week. There will be 2 shift patterns 10:00 - 22:00 and 15:00 - 03:00.
This is an excellent opportunity for those who have an interest in mental health and are looking to develop their skills and experience.
You will remain on your current pay and will work in the capacity of your current role (EMT or Paramedic)
Main duties of the job
The post-holder's principle responsibilities and main areas of work are set out below:-
To ensure they maintain current and effective registration with the HCPC in particular reference to the standards and proficiency for Paramedics and Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
Participate in shared learning and development with other less qualified or less experienced clinical staff assisting in their clinical development and facilitating their continued professional development.

Job responsibilities
The post holder is required to comply fully with Trust operational arrangements and clinical guidelines and procedures, to response promptly to instructions from dispatch and senior staff.
The post holder is required to deal with any situation which confronts them where aid is required commensurate with their role.
Work autonomously as an independent health care practitioner guided by precedent and clearly defined operating guidelines, procedures, protocols and code of conduct.
On arrival at incident, make a dynamic risk assessment of the environment and general situation, having due regard for health and safety of self and others, and through dispatch request additional support appropriate to the circumstance.
To stand by at hot and cold standby points as directed by the dispatch staff and to book mobile without delay as defined within the Standard Operating Guidelines.
