The post holder will be part of the Alcohol Team, working in partnership with service users, carers and other agencies to meet the needs of individuals with alcohol related problems.
The post holder will manage these patients with support from the Alcohol Nurse Specialist, working to provide a high standard of care within both local and national Best Practice guidelines.
The purpose of this role is to accept referrals for patient with alcohol related problems. To provide specialist nursing support for patients and significant others in a timely and appropriate manner that optimises clinical management of alcohol related problems.
This vacancy is open to all internal and external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally secure their manager’s agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as it funded on a non recurrent basis and will end after a period of 12 months.
Whilst this post is advertised on an fixed term / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future
Main duties of the job
Manage patients with alcohol withdrawal syndrome Promote compliance with Regimes utilising CIWA screening tool. Ensure appropriate community follow up Manage patients with Alcohol Liver Disease Try and arrange transfer of all ALD patients to Shevington ward. Advise staff on appropriate treatment and management of patients presenting with complex alcohol related problems Co-ordinate senior Gastroenterologist to these patients as appropriate Provide clear leadership and supervision to nursing colleagues, and junior team members Assist in the application of, and set standards for best clinical practice Advise clinicians and colleagues on changes to practice Assist in meeting the trusts nursing strategy targets Provide clinical advice and support with regard to alcohol detoxification, patient safety, comfort and discharge planning, to all health care professionals Provide support to families and patients with alcohol related problems Assist in the development of protocols and clinical management plans Act as a resource for to improve the management of patients with alcohol related problems Provide advice and support to external agencies Ensure seamless transition of care to community agencies

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
