Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join the Burns, Plastics and Orthopaedic out patient team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a clinical specialist in splinting and bracing. The post is based in MSK outpatients at the Northern General Hospital.

The post offers the chance to lead on the delivery of the splinting and bracing service and provide expert therapy intervention to upper limb outpatients alongside the clinical specialists in hand therapy.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work in one of the largest orthopaedic, burns, and hand units in the country which also holds major trauma status. They will work within a dynamic therapy team under the direction of the Clinical Specialists and Lead Therapists.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the outpatient bracing clinics, and training and development of the BOPS team as well as in-patient staff.

The post holder requires experience and post graduate training in fracture bracing and splinting.

Main duties of the job

Assist and support Clinical Service Managers and Lead Therapists with operational duties for the day to day running of the department.

Accountable for the delivery of high quality therapy care within a defined clinical area or pathway.

Responsible for providing expert clinical practice with advanced clinical reasoning and support to staff.

Provide clinical leadership to develop staff within the remit.

Lead evaluation and development of clinical practice within the specialism ensuring compliance with National and local guidelines and frameworks.

Develop the evidence base for practice through audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity and support.

Assist and support Clinical Service Managers and Lead Therapists in the service in the improvement and modernisation of services.

The Musculoskeletal Directorate (MSK) provide services including Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Pain Management, Metabolic Bone, Hand Centre, Physioworks, Staff Physiotherapy Service, MSK Hospital based Therapy Services and Podiatric Surgery.

The hospital based therapy team consists of over 110 whole time equivalent staff members who work together to deliver excellent patient care and sharing learning and experience.

Qualifications

Essential

BSc in Occupational Therapy Current HCPC Registration Postgraduate Masters level module in relevant subject to this post or equivalent knowledge and skills accumulated through formal training and experiential learning.

Desirable

Masters degree in relevant Speciality

Experience

Essential

Extensive experience as a qualified therapist. Significant experience at Specialist level in relevant specialty. Clinical Educator Participation in Clinical Audit & Practice Development Supervision and line management of Therapy staff including appraisal Professional Presentations Experience in emergency respiratory on call including weekend work (PT only)

Member of Special Interest Group Governance Teaching

Evidence of continuous personal & professional development Advanced clinical knowledge and skill in specialty Knowledge of evidence-base for specialty Good basic knowledge of therapy practice for medicine, orthopaedics, neurology
