Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the top five leading children's hospitals in the world. The Respiratory Unit is made up of Leopard and Kangaroo Wards although this role is predominantly based on Kangaroo Ward, you will be expected to cover and represent both wards at times.

Main duties of the job

As a Practice Educator within the Respiratory Unit, you will be responsible for training & supporting the development of current staff, as well as recruiting and orientating new staff. You will be directly involved in teaching on high dependency, respiratory, ventilation and surgical courses for both internal and external candidates.

You will be required to be an excellent team player and you will work closely with the Lead Practice Education Team, Clinical Ward Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists and the other education teams. With a commitment to staff development, you will help to maintain a supportive environment for staff, patients and families in our dynamic and busy wards.

With excellent communication skills and a personable demeanour, the individual needs to be skilled at building relationships with colleagues at all stages of their career, supporting them to develop new skills and experience.

Academic/Professional Qualification/Training

Essential

NMC Registered Nurse (Child/Adult & LD) Evidence of on-going dynamic continuing professional development within a relevant speciality linked to demonstrable clinical competencies and level 6 academic study within the speciality Possession of a relevant degree/in the process of obtaining Assessing and mentoring qualification or equivalent Leadership or management training Completed BLSi/TBLSi training or be willing to undertake

Desirable

Be in procession of a PG Cert in Practice Education or equivalent EPLS

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

A considerable amount of post registration experience Experience at Band 6 within a relevant clinical environment Teaching, supervision and managerial experience Experience of coordinating and managing patient care Experience/knowledge of handling child protection issues according to Trust policies and procedures Excellent specialty knowledge relevant to Respiratory Unit Excellent knowledge around the care of CYP requiring respiratory transitional care and Long Term Ventilation. Previous experience of change management and problem solving Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing. Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues
