Job summary

Due to the expansion of our clinical services we have a full-time ( hours/week) role available for enthusiastic Ophthalmic Science Practitioners to join our expanding Ophthalmic Imaging team within the Department of Ophthalmology at Queen's Medical Centre campus.

If you are an enthusiastic, highly motivated clinician, with good communication skills and the ability to be adaptable to the changing needs of the department, this role is an opportunity to work in a large teaching hospital with a varied caseload which will include participation in a range of service provision.

The successful candidate will need to hold a BSc in Photography or have equivalent clinical experience to enable delivery of the requirements of the role.

The post holder will be required to work various shifts to support the needs of the service. This includes working weekdays, weekends, bank holiday days and varying hours with the earliest start time at and the latest finish at The initial working pattern is anticipated at one evening clinic per week and one Saturday per month.

Main duties of the job

The role falls within the multidisciplinary team in the Ophthalmology Department comprising of Ophthalmologists Optometrists , Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Technicians, Ophthalmic Science Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners and Health Care Assistants.

Ophthalmology provides services to eye casualty , day case, inpatient and outpatient facilities. We have a large team of Consultant Ophthalmologists, who provide outpatient and surgical services in a full range of Ophthalmology sub-speciality clinics including AMD, corneal glaucoma, medical retina, vitreo-retinal, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular plastics and paediatrics.

The postholder will participate in the delivery of Ophthalmic Imaging services including a wide range of core clinical services including OCT, slit lamp photography, FFA, and provision of services to the expanding virtual clinic service with Ophthalmology

About us

The successful candidate will be working with the multidisciplinary team in the Ophthalmology Department comprising of Orthoptists, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Technicians, OSPs, the nursing and admin teams.

Ophthalmology Services include eye casualty, day case, in-patient and outpatient facilities. It has strong links to the University of Nottingham through research and works closely with the regional Diabetic Eye Screening Service. We have a large team of Consultant Ophthalmologists, who provide outpatient and surgical services in a full range of Ophthalmology sub-speciality clinics.

The post holder will be required to work various shifts to support the needs of the service. Job responsibilities

To work as an autonomous practitioner in undertaking ophthalmic imaging using a variety of techniques, for patients of all ages, ranging from children to the elderly and who have various communication abilities.

To work within the Ophthalmology virtual clinic, utilising additional clinical skills to complete a full assessment in line with the clinical protocols/procedures.

Participate in the theoretical and clinical teaching of ophthalmic imaging to colleagues, students or other health professional visiting the department

Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to undertake the role of ophthalmic science practitioner

To participate in departmental audit and research projects

Ensure compliance with infection control procedures.

Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework.

Training and qualifications

Essential

Degree in photgraphy or equiavalent clinical experience within ophthalmic imaging

Recent ophthalmic imaging clinical experience
